Texas

Tough day today...the dane got out of her kennel and made a mess of the house. My daughter cleaned up the mess. Then, one of the ducklings isn't looking to good...kinda lethargic, but still active. Then found one of our RIR hens, a terrific young layer, dead in the nesting box...looks like she prolapsed. And then, my wife cut her leg on a piece of broken glass. Probably could use a stitch or two, but steri-stripped it closed. What a day!!
What a bad day :( tomorrow will bring a better one

I don't know how they can keep you from watering your life supporting garden, that would be like telling you you can't water your livestock, jmo

Mostly because unlike livestock, home gardens are not considered essential to a family home anymore. "just go buy it at the grocery store" is what you hear most people say. Stupid, yes.

Pretty bummed. I've spent $ and time getting my garden perfect and planted...

Our city will probably have stage 4 water restrictions next month because of the horrible drought. I'm only allowed to water from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on two days a week now... stage 4 means NO outside watering at all...

Anyone else dealing with this? My family depends on what I grow each summer... like... a LOT

Heavy mulching will help. I have used just plain old hay and it did a lot to help keep moisture in. Also, shading your plants will help. I've seen using old drapery sheers and light weight sheets tied to Tposts used as a canopy to help shield from so much sun.

Have you considered diverting your washer/sinks to use as grey water to water with? What about putting up barrels under your gutters. Find someone carrying the big blue barrels (that have not had poisons in them) for about $25/30 each, put in a spigot at the bottom and set under your gutters to catch any rain that you can.

hugelkulture beds help a lot, too. And, add to the concept, keyhole gardening helps quite a bit as well.
