Texas

Check out this thread. Someone found a mystery egg on their porch and they are hatching it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/750468/new-australian-hatching-mystery-egg-at-home/60

I am not sure what to do. My ducklings have reached the stage where they are scared of everything. I keep putting them in the duck pool and they freak out after being in there a few minutes. Where as last week they were spending two hours in there before they climbed out.

What can I do to help them feel safer and calmer in general and when I am with them?
These were taken a week or so ago I think.

I don't know what to do about how to make them feel more confident but they sure are adorable!

That little duckling in the second picture is soooo cute! Well, they're both cute.

Thanks for all the positive and encouraging feedback. Tonight I'm designing the coop and tomorrow we will be at Lowes getting the wood and wire. Heck we may even have chicks by tomorrow night.

I think I want Rhode Island Reds ... is that a good breed for the hot Texas summers?

The roo is leaving today. Regardless. I just didn't realize that she was being protected by him. I'll give her a few days to see if she gets along with the chicks. If not then, I will soon have my favorite chicken up for grabs... Which makes me sad but I won't subject her to torment. She was my surprise chicken so many years ago. (She is three now) She was one of my original flock. The last one after this roo goes. But I can't stand him anymore, and they need him. So it works out. I just don't want to lose my sweet little Chickadee. Edited to add: That's my little Chickadee. Her back feathers are worn out from being a favorite. You can kind of figure out her size by the size of the chain link next to her.
I have four of theses little guys/gals . We decided to to keep the small coop my hubby built and we are going to make a separate area for our banties if you find you still need a home for her let me know I'm also considering adding silkies again to my flock:-)

if you want RIRs if you buy from a feed store they will be more than likely production reds... that and the RIRs i bought with my 1st chick order were out right mean! i bought 2 and those 2 killed the smaller ones i had bought 2 wks prior! i would still like to have some RIRs but i am only interested in herritage RIRs... maybe later when i have more time and $$$ to seek them out!
just my 2 cents...

Thank you they are interesting characters. I can't wait to see them fully feathered out. I haven't taken pictures this week but they have that interesting hair-do all birds get when they are getting their feathers in. And they are just now starting to try and quack and make adult duck sounds.

I have a lot of fun just sitting in the coop and watching them with their companions the 3 amigos, my 3 baby chicks.
