We are getting drenched right now! Chicks are getting their first rain! Were having fun earlier, but we will see how they are tomorrow!

Didn't start raining here until around 11:30pm but when it hit the wind was blowing & it was pouring. It's still rumbling out there & raining at almost 1am. We needed this badly

My neighborhood says no chickens! I'm going to just ask my neighbors and see if they agree than we will just do it. Anyone else have any experience with going against the rules??

Define "rules". If you mean the opinion of your neighbours, sure, all the time.

If you mean HoA - well, that's up to you. If you want to deal with the repercussions, whatever they may be...the only thing I'd say there is - avoid guineas and roosters and flight capable birds. Personally, if your neighbours are on board with the whole thing, why don't you just get an amendment to the HoA?

If you mean the law - you won't find any of us on here providing resources on how to break the law, though there are several resources for how to get it changed in your area.

It poured like crazy - and, the wind whipped around and came in from the river. That's very unusual for us. So, the coop got a bit wet at the back end - maybe three inches into the coop - otherwise it was bone dry :yiipchick Everyone was healthy and busy this morning - was great to see.

Even better - the rain, while heavy, was not enough to wash away my newly sprouting grass. I had bare areas that the previous owners swore would never take grass. I've managed to get seed started and it's looking great. When that rain hit, I just knew it was going to do to my grass what it did to my clover a few months ago - wash it all into the river. But, nope! It was the perfect type rain. Just heavy enough to get us a good soaking and still light enough to not become a gully washer.

And I guess I should update. I was able to get back 3 of my 4 cows. One is still missing, presumed sold, and criminal theft charges for cattle theft have bee filed and hopefully served. She has 10 days to comply and give us back the cow, first, or pay $6500 plus court, our traveling expenses, and any other damages the judge racks on, up to$10k.

I would post a picture of the deplorable conditions I got them back in, but I will spare everyone. Instead I will just show this one. The brown steer was born Aug 15. The black heifer, one born to my cow in their care, was born Nov 1.

Glad you at least got 3 of them back. Hopefully number four will show up soon!!

Anyways, I'm glad you found 3 out of 4 of your cattle. Hopefully the long arm of the law will smack them righteously on the head. Maybe knock some sense into them.

Welcome to the person who posted that they are new here! I hope that you have lots of fun on this site and learn a lot. I'm still learning but have fallen victim to chicken math... Somehow, before I got all my chicks a person was giving away their flock. Well I asked if they wanted to give it to me. I didn't get an answer back until yesterday (well technically two days ago) and they are still looking for someone to take the flock. So 5-1 (got rid of a rooster)+9 (feedstore buy)+6 (couldn't resist the peeps)-1 (it had slipped tendon)+3 (to replace the one that my husband was attached to, didn't know which one he would want so got three)+3 (turkeys, YAY!)=24 But since I already agreed to take her birds I would need to add 35. The landlord is going to take some after I get my pick out of the birds but I am not sure which ones. More than likely I will give the older (1 year olds) to my landlord and keep the 6 week old birds to go with my 6 week old birds. BTW, my DH set me a limit of 20 birds. But said I could go over since I plan on getting a dozen Iowa blue hatching eggs next month. Crud, my shed is definitely going to the birds. Hehehehe

And YAY for the rain, boo for silly birds. My whole flock of outside birds didn't go into the coop. I went into the coop to find out why (have to crawl into it since it is converted giant doghouse) it was warm and dry in there. I didn't want to get back out and guess what. Everyone followed me in and got comfortable. Strange birds, I guess I had to check under the straw for boogey men or something before they would go in.

We got soaked. Getting a real test on Mike's roofing abilities!! I stood outside of work and wondered how I was going to make it the block to my car without being 100% soaked....decided then that I was happy I hadn't cleaned out my car as there was a large towel in the back seat (don't ask). So, off I went (I refuse to run) strolling my way to the car. Got in, dried off, drove home...**le sigh** I wish I could memory wipe that drive...sat on the porch and watched it rain while drinking a cuppa hot tea. I'm good with getting soaked to the bone if it means my land is getting rain.

And, DOH!! it's time for candling and weighing for Day 10....thanks for the incubator talk reminding me!

We got, as usual, 5 minutes of super-hard rain that timed itsself to fall just as I was driving to my doctor's appointment, and then not much else. Still. it was enough that I didn't have to water the garden, so I guess I'm grateful.

OK....does anyone have "pretty black and white laced birds" of some sort that lay edible eggs for sale?

OK, I'm with showbarnmom. We are dying for eggs and have another three months to go until ours produce. Anyone got a rental bird? Of couse, I'm just joking. Mostly. I would totally take a couple of rental hens, though... sigh...
