I got a certificate when I purchased my chicks from Murray. I requested the chicks be vaccinated against Marecks disease and coccidiosis and asked for an NPIP certificate in case I decided to show.

Just to make sure what you're saying is clear - the NPIP certificate was solely to provide you coverage if you decided to show - not to claim you were NPIP certified, right?

NPIP cannot be transferred with the sale of chicks, just to make it clear to the original asker. They are handled by the state, not the hatchery. So while you can prove that your particular chicks from McMurray came from an NPIP certified facility, you cannot prove you are NPIP. They have to test your "whole flock", even if it's just the chicks you ordered from McMurray. The requirement is for x% of your flock to be tested at your facility/farm and pass testing/inspection. If you can prove that your entire flock originated from NPIP certified organizations, NPIP certification testing requirements can be waived. However, you are not considered NPIP without getting the certification from your state.

You can read more about it and other regulations here:

To become NPIP you only pay a certain amount of monies to the Association. They do no testing at all. The state does when you request a permit from them but that is separate from the NPIP Association. I am NPIP and Certified by the State. When I sell a chicken to a customer that wants to show it I give them a copy of the Typhoid Certificate and I fill out a NPIP Document that the NPIP Association gave me when I paid the monies. The person can now show their chicken. If she has a document stating they are NPIP then all she needs is to be tested by the State for Typhoid. This is a free test that the state will send a vet out to do so that the disease does not spread through Texas.

I accidently spilled water on the keyboard and it has been downhill from there. I miss my chicken folks with whom I share this love of chicken, ducks and other poultry. I might be able to read posts but soon won't be able to type back.

Darn touchy technology.

Question about my ducks, what age due they generally start displaying whether they are male or female? What age do they start laying? They are almost fully feathered now about a month old.

All my ones outside made it through their firat chilly nite! Think it got down to 45 last nite. All of them are out scratching in their run and peepin happily!

:jumpy sweet news :)

I'm glad I caught our escape artist yesterday morning. I'd have hated for him to have spent the night outside the coop, last night. Especially since we dropped to ~40° for a bit. He might have made it; but, he'd sure have been miserable doing it.

TK, water on your keyboard is actually redeemable if you are prompt about it. Just take a hair dryer and dry it out as soon as you can. If you are experiencing more and more issues with your keyboard, it is probably still retaining moisture from the spill. Give it a good drying and it should clear up, unless corrosion has set in. Keyboards have been designed pretty well to be forgiving of liquid if quickly dried; so, maybe there's some hope yet :)
