ahhhh...I love it! Send them to my house when they are done!

Mike says his to do list has him busy until ~2017; but, he'll look into writing you in around then.

well I got two rattlers yesterday cleaning out the cattle pens! Sure am glad I saw them first! Hope everybody has a great day and stays warm!

Ack....I was just saying how thrilled I would be if snakes didn't make an appearance this year - then I see your post. **shudders**

Ahhhh I am sorry to hear that! Hope he gets to feeling better. (You do realize that just because he sneezed once, is no excuse to stay home and be on the BYC forum)

Good shot!!! Are you going to eat them?

Lisa :)

Snake is good eatin.

well.. it was bound to happen sooner or later

My husband has been gone for a bit (afghanistan).. then came home wounded.. so I've been letting him take things easy.. and he's not used to the new routine as to letting the dogs out so close to the ducks new pen

well.. last night I asked him to let the dogs out for the night

pretty harmless.. or so I thought

****** if one of the dogs didn't get ahold of one of the ducklings and this is what I found this morning... yup.. poor little fella was drowned in the dog's water tub

sad thing is.. it was Rhiannon's favorite.. poor little bugger shall never quack again...

(please notice the sopping wet plush fluffiness.. and the attached butt tag......)

I have a slight dilemma. Some of you know I have ordered eggs from Arielle. My incubator is ready to go when the eggs arrive. One of my Australorps, Stretch, has gone broody. Right now she is setting on 3-4 unfertilized eggs. She went broody on me several times last year, but I didn't have any eggs for her to hatch.

--Do I let her sit on the eggs being shipped or put them in the incubator?

--Right now, she is sitting in one our our nest boxes. We have 4 nests for the girls to use. Do I try to move her to a cage/box in the coop or leave her be for now?

I was going to include a short video of Stretch, but the file is too big. I need to figure out a way to condense it.

Thanks for the help!

why not split the eggs.. give her half and incubate the other half?

That idea has been going through my head. I will be receiving 18 eggs, so ..... 9 eggs too many for her? I also have a Barred Rock, Dottie (named because she is clueless), who thinks she is broody. When she saw Stretch in the box all day, she decided to do the same yesterday afternoon. She had enough of it by dusk. At least these are good problems to have!

Re. your comments on the snakes. My Dad always picked his snakes up by hand. One day he picked up a black snake but his hand was not quite in the right place. The snake turned around and bit him. All of a sudden that snake became 'poisonous'. He chopped the head off and threw it in the middle of the road. A car came by and hit it. Out popped 2 snake eggs. The snake became a black snake again. Moral of the story: Just be careful!!

lol.. that's why i don't grab a rattler without a snake stick! (I also know cottonmouths, copperheads and coral snakes and so on by sight.. so that helps too

as for how many to give her.. just start popping them under her and see how many she can cover comfortably.. I wouldn't go over (though so you will still have half for the bator (they will probably send extras.. so you get the idea)
