OK.. since the boys decided to track mud all over the kitchen floor thought it would be a good place and time to take pics.. got some comb and leg pics. After watching all the big chickens most of the day.. and using the wide comb/thick leg.. I think I have at least 3 roos.. the two GLW and at least 1 EE... The other EE and BR I honestly am stuck! They all seem to have big feet with huge legs but those two have more narrow combs.. however, the BR is looking a bit more pinkish today

Thinking I might have ended up with all 5 roos! I am posting my pics.. if anyone has a few extra minutes can you give me your opinion? I know they are only 4 weeks and are what they are but would love to know if i finally had the lightbulb go off in my head on this whole sexing thing or not! (not to mention would love to know if I need to make a roo pen too!) GLW- (pretty sure both are roos.. sniff sniff) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/799115/golden-laced-wyandotte-genders#post_11589350 BR- (it is dark in color but her comb is looking a lil more pink today.. I don't have a litter mate to compare) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/799819/barred-rock-baby/20#post_11589376 EE- (these two really confuse me! They even have two different shaped combs and both hugs legs! However, Amber's comb is wide!) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/799872/ameraucana-gender/10#post_11589426 And just to share.. my second to my oldest son has been a lil afraid (so to speak)of the chickens (he is fine with the adults and if they are on the ground but is unsure of picking them up or anything) well, they decided to take the first step for him! 3 of the 5 just jumped right on him all at the same time!
Where did you buy your chicks? I'm assuming you got them straight run? Buy sexed pullets if you buy more. Your chances are MUCH better that way. I think you have at least two cockerels if not 3. 1 or maybe both GLWs, and one of your EE's... Dixie? I forget which was which.

It is extremely hard to sex EE until they are older, if you buy EE chicks its always a crapshoot

Not good Scarey . Don't know what youcan do but pray and maybe tell the PO you are waiting for hatching eggs which are time sensitive and ask that he tell the sick Po guy that you need them delivered to your door right away... BUT BETTER ask the Po if they can call you when they come in and pick them up yourself .My po lets me do that although I start calling when the tracking says they should be there so they dont forget to call me. Maybe I drive them nuts but better than having eggs sit .

I think I will call the PO and have them hold them and just go pick them up, I don't really want them sitting in his hot truck until he delivers my stuff at 2! Good idea!

You mean EE's are usually male? So nothing is screaming male to you yet?

They were "suppose to be" sexed already.. and all pullets. But then again, my EE's were suppose to be AEs so...
Not sure which EE you are talking about but would you mind explaining why you think that?

Totally call your P.O. they will hold the package for you!

AE's? I'm drawing blanks. Sorry.

I'm not sure what AE's are but what I meant about the EE's is that you can't sex them really, you can try to feather sex them, but it is really hard to tell whether they are cockerels or pullets until they are between 8-12 weeks. So buying them as chicks you don't really know what you're getting.

this is true! i have an EE cockeral, that i got from Little Wing. then posted some pics of him and everyone was saying he was a pullet...then another week goes by and he became very much roo.

the mix breeds like those can hide the markers really well. i too have gotten some roos out of sexed chicks. 1 of my cuckoo marans is a roo out of the 3 i got. 1 of my polish is a roo out of the 2 i have, and 1 of my wyandottes is a roo out of the 3 pullets i purchased as well.

ii would say just go ahead and plan to make a rooster-pen if you have the room/means to do it! then you wont have to stress! roos wont begin to attempt to mate till 6+ months old in my experience so your hens can be safe for a while until you can seperate your girls. i have 5 roos in with 12 hens. my numbers dont add up either yet, but i will be making a rooster pen. and their pen will be simple. a protected area for the to roost and thats about it. no nest boxes are needed. heck, i might have some outdoor roosts for them too incase they want to sleep under the stars, wont be near as indepth as the coup for my layers,
