Texas

Ohhhh! I'm in Canyon, TX (up in the panhandle)! Nice to find y'all!
We just got our girls... They are 2 months old.
We have a RIR named Amelia...
A Speckled Sussex named Martha...
A white rock we call Donna...
And our Delaware is Rose.
Can't wait for them to start laying in the early fall!

Been to canyon a few times. Great little area. Lots of good show cattle. Lol.

I've been an occassional lurker, but I'm going to officially jump on the Texas bandwagon! We're in deep East TX - Marshall area.

How 'bout this summer weather? Mid 80s in the middle of July? Yes, please!!!

It's 70 here.. and raining cats and dogs! SO nice since we haven't had anything at all in so long!

thought so.. but it seems to be the opposite with the copperhead we have seen? Rats we see during the day.. or ANY time really.. but the copperheads have been when it is cooler? Maybe the heat is too hot and in the cooler they are looking for sun? I have no idea.. just know I don't like them!

If it is very hot, the snakes will be out at night or when it is cool. If too cool, they'll be out in the warmest time of the day.

why can't I find anything like that!? I am seriously not joking.. our CL is full of 2+ hrs away.. mixed with a couple around the Austin area... I DID find 5-6 week old BSL locally but am looking for older pullets or layers! Think I am missing something.. even claz.org only has Austin area! It's like either ppl just aren't selling or.. there is another way to advertize that I know nothing about!
Serious breeders who breed to the Standard of Perfection (SOP) often don't have chicks this time of year. Some may have already sold off their winter/spring hatchlings already if they DO sell chicks at all. Or if they are like us, they are growing out the young 'uns so they can decide who to keep for breeding purposes. Which means they may have some older started birds in the fall.

If you want to "practice" your husbandry skills and see what works and what doesn't work for you, you could get just a couple hatchery birds from someone now, and then wait until fall/winter to get the standard-bred birds that it sounds like you want.
