Don't you have to have a pond for your geese? Even if we had one, there wouldn't be any water in it because of a lack of moisture.

wlhtx are you serious? 18 years old! Does it still lay eggs? I can see the expression on my husband's face if I tell him these guys will be around for at least 20 years. O I will only be 77......

Lisa :)

ouch! had to miss a day of work last week cause mine was cutting his K9's...fever, Big D, fuuuuusssssssssssssyyyyyyyy!!!! how old is yours? mine just hit 14 mos

My little girl is 3. Thankfully, we never had much problem with cutting teeth. She got hers slow tho... At her first birthday party, she was running around and talking, but only had her two bottom teeth.

Chinese are great if you want an aggressive breed of geese... got rid of mine and the africans because they were harassing the mailman

I have embdens, toulouse and sebastopol now.. much nicer birds!

Poor mailman. Lol. I bet that made for an interesting story tho. While the others were telling stories of mean dogs, he told stories of mean geese. In high school, a friend of mine had white Chinese geese. One if them was so mean that we couldn't even get out of the vehicle in the afternoons.. Her mom would have to come run the goose off first.

TexasLisa, I'll have to ask her about eggs. We were at her house to pick up some new chicks that her broody hatched and she just mentioned the ages of the geese to me. They were for sure still active and plenty loud.

We have a pond that's about 3 acres that sits maybe 100 feet from my back door. I'm not convinced that the geese need a pond considering they spend all their time by he house and wandering through the pasture eating grass. I swear the dang things might as well be cows. I would much prefer they ate the tall grass along the pond bank (in order to cut down on our weedeating), but I guess the pasture grasses are tastier. No aggression in mine yet, but the are still juvies - so we'll see. I'm not opposed to a roasted goose dinner if they get too bad... But as long as I see a reduction in snake sightings, they will earn their keep!

If you want to get geese, be sure to get two. It doesn't matter if it's to geese or two ganders or a pair, but geese need other geese. I have two Giant Dewlap Toulouse ganders I am thinking of selling, as I have to move to a smaller place. I live in East Texas, near Nacogdoches. Anybody interested? These are beautiful geese, and they have never chased anybody.

Out here in dry west texas we are finally getting rain. We have had 4 inches so far and its still not getting any to the aquifer. Hallelujah for rain but sigh. My tiny town has gotten National attention lately because we actually ran out of water from the drought and oilfield boom demands. Right now my chickens are requisitioning small boats.

That's scary. I heard on news the other day that in counties where fracking occurs, approx. 20% of water usage in these counties is from fracking, not from people's home usage. Which kinda makes me wonder why in the world we are still messing with fracking when there is already a shortage of water for drinking, bathing, and irrigating crops.

Totally getting hammered off and on again today! Yeah!! We haven't had rain in so long!
Thanks to everyone who helped me with Baby.. this morning she was walking, running and roosting fine. No idea what that was all about but it def scared me back into using my super caution radar!

Much of the water from our aquifer is going straight to fracking. There are different ways to do it but it costs more so companies are not going to do it unless forced. They have already developed systems to use the salt water waste after treatment instead of sending it back down disposal wells. You can see huge water pits all over the place with massive amounts of water and nothing to even deter evaporation.Huge waste of precious resource.
