Texas

I am in Celina Texas about 50 miles north of dallas. I am new to chickens. Only wanted one white silkie. Now I have 15 chicks! I love my chickens!

howdy!!

I took the flat roof off my run today so I can replace it with a gabled tin roof, and add an exterior coop area, and it took me longer than I thought to disassemble it and add heavier supports. So, I had to throw the old flat roof back on just laying there unattached because it started pouring on me. ( I put some wood on the four corners in hopes it would help hold it)Sure hope a 45 mph wind doesn't whip through and crush my hole run to shambles! EEEK!

OOPS! Well there hasn't been much wind here so hopefully you will be ok.

Surefire way to get a little rain when there is almost no chance of rain - go refill the chickens feeders. Hasn't been a hard rain here, more of a drizzle, but enough I saw chickens shaking off, so I'll have to go dig out wet feed from all the feeders when it gets done.

X2 on the feed. But its still raining here and calling for rain all week long. Looks like ima spend my weekend cleaning up alot. Poor chickens probably think they are ducks...and the poor brahma,s feathered legs look pitiful! But due to the rain all my chicks in the brooder are getting some TLC

All my livestock look like drowned rats. The horses are pitiful muddy messes. The chickens are soaked and feed is turned to soup. The barn dog has mud to her elbows. And my Snow White show steer is black.

That's scary. I heard on news the other day that in counties where fracking occurs, approx. 20% of water usage in these counties is from fracking, not from people's home usage. Which kinda makes me wonder why in the world we are still messing with fracking when there is already a shortage of water for drinking, bathing, and irrigating crops.
The water that is used for hydraulic fracturing is always non-potable and is usually so saline that it is not usable for irrigation. It is always purchased from either the surface owner of the lease where the well is being completed or a from a nearby surface owner.

Im so far behind reading, a whole 14 hrs! Anyway gonna be in Sam Antonio tomorrow and Thu and am on the hunt for a good used cabinet bator. Whats it look like down there? Anyone know of some prospects?
This rain is driving me crazy! No rain for months then it rains for 3 days straight, and probably more tomorrow. Everyone looks like drowned rats and one of my broodys lost all 4 welsumer she was raising for me. I know we need the rain but enough already. Come back next week when we've had a chance to dry out! (Can you tell we dont get much rain here?)

Sucks to have to do extra work cuz of the rain! Although if it would keep raining here, I would be happy. Just wasn't expecting the rain today and hung all the feeders back up instead of leaving them underneath the coops where the feed would stay dry.

Hmmm, feathered leg chickens.....sounds like a lot of bathing work to me!

Think I'll stick to my clean-legged chickens!
