Beautiful chickens!

I don't have an answer about the rings but I would be upset if someone told me their fertile eggs were only hatching at 50%... I'd expect much higher for something I paid for.

A 50% hatch is considered pretty good for shipped eggs. They told me the previous buyer had a 50% hatch, the problem I had was that they sent me a bunch of eggs with defects in the shell that were obvious which would predispose them to developing a blood ring due to bacteria entering the egg thru the defect. I was wondering if the eggsperts thought you could maybe use candle wax, like some people do to seal cracks. I would not normally set those eggs, but ya'll know that shipped eggs are not cheap so I though I'd at least give them a try.
I tried taking a pic of several of the eggs but you couldn't see aything

I'll meet ya halfway

I guess I better keep a black coop of these just in case... I have 2 black silkied pullets, 1 laid her 1st egg yesterday- green

. At least my splash silkied hen is laying a blue one... Been thinking of getting rid of the black and just stick with working on the splash. But the black is really pretty...

Don't tempt me! In the future I'm going to take you up on that. I just can't start anything new right now. I for sure want some though!

I used to have a hen that laid an egg like that. Never had a problem hatching them & I hatched a lot of them. Pullets I kept from those eggs don't lay eggs with the buldge.

Not saying I am by any means an expert on it. Just that I have seen it, hatched them and had no issues...

Put up 4 silver pencil rock bantam roosters on July 1st. Fixed a few for lunch today, Oh my it was slap your granny kinda good!!!! Put store bought chicken to shame. Probably should have grown them out a little more but they were really being annoying.

Zootopia I checked my records (various sticky notes) and figured I got 2 chicks from that same seller out of 24. I new the eggs were terrible when I got them but just like you, I tried cuz I was out the money already. One of the chicks is very small still.
