I have an ill chicken!!! She was standing still this morning during treat time with her eyes closed getting run over by the others in the run. i went a pulled her out, she wasnt making any noise whatsoever. Brought her inside, gave her some crumbles and electorlyte water. She was eating and drinking so that relieved me. Now she is siting but has her butt up off the ground. Could she be egg bound? I looked at her but am really not sure what im looking for...

She was slipping down hill all afternoon to the point where she was laying on her side with her eyes closed, so i did the responsible thing and let loose in the free range in the sky.

For those of you that have never tried just slitting a throat it seemed very peaceful. She just slowly fell asleep as she bled out. I talked to her the whole time...

I'm sorry you lost her but you know you did the right thing. I grew up with livestock and pets and never understood loving something sooo much you let it suffer. I process my extras and always keep them calm. Even extra roos deserve a peaceful send off.

Does anyone break their necks to process, my FIL and husband do it o pheasants when hunting and FIL says he used to do it growing up in Alabama, every Sunday so they would have chicken for Sunday dinner. Just curious if its easier and quicker than bleeding them out?

I believe let them bleeding out is less pain full if you do in the right spot with a sharp blade . Left side of the neck with out cutting the throat

That's interesting, I would think a quick break of the neck would hurt less than bleeding to death, but I've never done it, so I don't know, that why I'm curious about it, thanks Gallo for the input?
