Okay, not chicken related (well kind of), but I am proud of this. I am trying to figure out ways to cut down on food cost while increasing "convenience" last weekend HEB had bone in, skin on chicken breast for $1/lb, so I bought about 12 lbs. Cooked all that up on Sunday, stripped the meat off, bagged it up in smaller portions, so I can just grab add taco seasoning or BBQ sauce, throw and a tortilla and good to go.

I kept all the bones and all the trimmings from pre-prepping my veggies (did not matter what kind). Froze it all, then today pulled it all out and made home made chicken stock. It is to die for!!!! I am freezing it in ice trays then going to dump them all in a bag so I can just grab what I need. So simple, yet so effective!

Oh Sweetie that IS chicken related!
It's a good idea too! I will have to give it a try when we go to the grocery again!

ONE DOLLAR A POUND? :duc Wish I hadn't missed that one!

Oh I am so sorry! Was it a young chicken or an old one?

She was younger. She was around point o lay, was probably holding out because of the heat. All of mine are being very sheisty about eggs right now anyway.

Today i gave them all treats of frozen water melon slices! That was a major hit!!

Our area HEB has it for $1 fairly often :)

I know we aren't supposed to like wild birds around our flock because of the potential for disease and lice etc. BUT I must say I LOVE my sweet mockingbird pair. They follow me around and sing songs to me which I return :) They also avidly guard my flock. If any other animal goes anywhere near any of my free ranging chickens one of the mockingbirds will immediately swoop down scolding them and driving them away swooping back and forth over their back or tail till they are far enough away to be satisfactory. And today a hawk was circling and at the same time my chickens saw it and freaked out, both mockingbirds took off like rockets and attacked it till it was driven away. If only they were on night shift too, LOL!

Yep, I see it about every 4 months, normally the pre-seasoned legs and thighs are $1/lb, at least for the past 3 months that is all we had, so I jumped on this deal. Wish I had an extra freezer, would have bought a BUNCH more!!!

Oh poor thing! What kind of medication did you give her?
I need to start a chicken first aid kit. I just don't know which medications I should have on hand!
