Actually, there are studies. 0% calcium group, 2% calcium group, and 4% calcium group. Blood tests drawn and sperm mobility and health were checked.

Since poultry is a Trillions of dollars world wide industry, you must know everything about the chicken has been studied to death. LOL There is far too much at stake and the industry has lots of money to spend on research.

Layer feed is 4% calcium. Well, it just happens that the 4% calcium group tested the poorest of the three test groups, in this study. Also interesting thatsome calcium, ie, the 2% group were tested the best. Interesting too that 2% calcium is the amount of calcium in a Grower or Raiser type formula.

Does all this matter to most backyarders? Likely not. But to those who breed? Oh certainly. It matters greatly.

Hi Jim!

I recently looked at the H&H feed, too.  I currently use Texas Naturals (my tag shows fish meal as well as peanuts), but the calcium is low.  Mine have free access to oyster shell but they don't seem to eat much of it.

I couldn't read the H&H ingredients for layer pellets on the website.  Could you tell me what the calcium % is?  I think the chickens would like the mini-pellets, too.

H&H feed is sold locally at several locations.

Hi Tammy,

Protein is 19%, I will try to attach the label from a bag on here. I prefer,as do my ladies, the Old Fassioned Crumble. Prior, I used Tx Nat, my hens ate it fine, but some friends flocks would not. We also felt we always need to label our cartons for those with peanut allergies. On the mini pellets, I still get waste, not as much with Tx Nat, on the Old Fasioned, very little, if any. Plus, you can have grower and layer eating , if you have mixed flock as I normally do. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.216688135155598.1073741832.156052204552525&type=3

Very interesting! I have resorted to feeding this Flock Raiser http://poultry.purinamills.com/OURPRODUCTS/Products/FlockRaiser/default.aspx since I have so many different ages intermingled in my currently free ranging flock. What are you thoughts on that?

Howdy! I've been here for a bit, but just stumbled across this thread. I'm Dave and I'm in SE Texas, along the Gulf Coast...about an hour east of Houston.

Howdy and welcome to BYC! You have come to one of the friendliest forums in town!
