Texas

I have nothing against Master Gardeners, as I said my mother was one, and very very knowledgeable about gardening and plants. She too was innovative. I was just commenting on the age of the data on the A

You better sell it to him.  I just checked the book out on Amazon and they want $79 for a used copy!!  There were only 2 comments, but both highly recommended it.

DO WHAT? OMG Go to Wabash Feed on Washington Ave. I paid $36 last year for it.

haha My daughter is an engineer too. Everything is black and white and if you want a simple, to the point answer you better ask someone else lol. Cause she'll give you every detail you never wanted to know on the subject.

My dh is a mechanical engineer. NOTHING is thrown away. Everything gets fixed again and again and again. I have 'the Brave Little Toaster' he had when he was single (1980's) that he rescued from the trash that an older couple was tossing. He doesn't understand why I would want a new one. Lord have mercy!!!

hehe. My daughter is an electrical engineer. She's too much into cool new gadgets to fix everything but she does do all her own wiring type things when possible.

LOL. Welcome to Texas gardening! A&M is helpful but much of the data on their website is old. As in, my mother the master gardener followed exactly the same recommendations more than 20 years ago.

As for the fall garden, yep, it's time. I think. Depends...

I was using the guide-lined times to plant.. are those outdated?

Depends? We have been getting some real down pours this last week.. it's reminding me of the spring when all my seeds got washed out.. lol One thing for sure though, last fall my garden was MUCH better than this springs! We have a TON of sand here!

Well yesterday it was teachers and today its master gardeners. Hmmmmmm. I don't think its those of us that are Master Gardeners that are angry. I worked hard for the knowledge I have and love helping others with gardens and plants. I do color outside the lines. Always trying something that shouldn't work just to see. Sometimes its good sometimes its a fail.
I don't think it is what people do that is being discussed it is how they do it. My beef is angry and nasty people. They come in all shapes and sizes and have many different interests. So no matter what you are into you will always find some scoweling mean no gooder who has a lot to say about the info or lack of being discussed. I have worked in a place that held meeting for every plant club you can imagine. Some of those people till this day are caring friends of mine. Others well they can stick their plants where the sun does not shine!

Just wanted to clear that up. I wish every one was into gardening enough to wear the freaky title of Master!

it's the area of a bird where an organ (the hematopoieses) is located where the B cells develop ... people develop them (the B cells) in their bone marrow.. it's for their immune systems.. and it's only active for the first 6 months or so of a birds life.. so you could remove it from an older bird and it wouldn't have any effect on their immune system.. but if you removed it from a young bird (under 6 months) it would impair their immune system..

now disappearing again.. just saw that and had to reply.. lol

Thank you for the information Yin!

The ones around here are just nasty! We had a huge one that got in the coop of the flock we watch over.. one night it decided to kill a pullet that was almost to POL! I guess it didn't realize it couldn't swallow it and spit it back out. Darn thing had about 6 eggs in it too! We have killed about 20 rats and black rats and have seen 4 (killed 2-missed 2..think they were the same two but dunno) copperheads. These rats seem far more aggressive than the copperheads! Our rats are either darker (like black)or lighter but aren't red but I guess they come in all colors it seems. Oh yeah.. we have only lived here for 4 months! You are lucky you have only seen 3! All these Texas snakes just give me the heebee jeebees! Back in Wyo we only really had diamond backs and bull snakes.. I feel like I live in a different world

We love our snakes! They really keep the rodent population in check!

Here are some pics of my beloved garden. I guess every eden will have a snake or two. I think my ponds full of frogs probably do not help matters either

Beautiful!

Wow even harder than Saudi Arabia? I have heard that if you can garden in Texas, that you can garden anywhere. I grew up here in the hillcountry so it is all I know. I must have had a past life in the tropics because I just go gaga over big, lush, and colorful. If it is rare I got to have it. If it is hard to grow I gotta prove em' wrong! I I have worked in the plant industry on and off for years and have learned there are a lot of rules. I'm not one for following boring gardening rules and in doing so I have learned a lot of tricks.

Yes, the extremes of quickly changing weather here are a challenge. The secret is healthy soil full of lots of organic nutrition. My personal secret is horse poo and a bag of lady bug dirt with new hardwood mulch every season. I use a lot of hardy natives and in focal points put all my lush beauties so the overall effect is tropical without all the water use. I actually use less water than a suburban green lawn!

Lady bug dirt?

I am thankful for people like you! No Master Gardener bashing here! I was born with a brown thumb; so I apprecaite all the help I can get!

Daughter started school this week. Munchkin left behind has become VERY clingy. Happy we have chickies to keep her occupied!
I am very tired of the cliques that I see every day. I thought all of that was just high school stuff but I guess some people must have their cliques to feel superior. I wish they would grow up and behave like decent adults!
Trying to start tomato seedlings; but I think I killed them all. Is it too late in the year to try again?
Grilled ribs for dinner or chicken parmesean? I need to think of a good side dish for one of them!
