As to the guns, as I said way earlier, I grew up in a gun shop that my parents owned, was in diapers at gun shows, so I have been around em literally my whole life. I guess for us its not a "culture" its a way of life. And mine has saved my life before, so I am REAL partial to carrying it at all times
Wow, I am kind of surprised by how you were treated in Fredricksburg, it is a tourist town with people coming in from all over the world. I am so sorry that happened to you and your family.but when I made my way to Fredericksburg for the first time last year, it was not pleasant. There were just a few places where my Mom, sister and I got stared and glared at pretty bad.
That being said, there were parts of the town where people were very kind to us. I think it might have just been a few select places. But I suppose you can face that kind of stuff anywhere in Texas, if you're unlucky enough.
This place just made the most delicious things. I bought some jarred Cherry Pie Filling that I ended up eating with ice cream that was so delicious, I wanted to go back and buy everything, haha!Amish cheese.......lived in DE for a while. Would go to PA to farmer's markets and get Amish food....yum.
Yeah, I figured it was probably because it was summer and my family tends to get super tan in the few hours we spend in the sun a day, haha! It doesn't make it okay, but I figured it just wasn't our year to be there. We went back to Boerne and we were fine there. I think it may have just been selective.Wow, I am kind of surprised by how you were treated in Fredricksburg, it is a tourist town with people coming in from all over the world. I think this kind of stuff can happen anywhere, in any State or even Country, not just Texas, it really is a shame and very unnecessary to hurt other people.

To know about American gun culture and then to experience it first hand are two very different things. Owning guns on a farm to protect your livestock or near a border where drug/human traffickers cross is not the same as a neighbor having an AR 15 or two in a subdivision.I'm just surprised that someone would be shocked at the "gun culture". I've lived in other places and most people I ran into still thought that Texas was one big tumble weed-filled desert and that we still had shootouts between cowboys and Indians, and everyone had a horse. So having someone come to TX that DIDN'T expect things that may be considered more "western" or "farmy" these days, whatever you want to call it, is odd to me.
Yep. Smaller, close-knit communities always stare and talk about anyone new and/or different looking/acting. But that is anywhere, not just Texas.
Although Texas is a whole other country, which people don't always believe until they get here and then they get it.

And, to make this chickeny....yes I do run outside with a shotgun when the dogs alert me that there is a coyote close by, cuz AH ain't running no buffet. (said with a really bad TX accent)![]()
