Texas

Here are my pics for the day. Gave Mazzy the first chicken bath I have ever given. It went easier than I thought it would. She is almost 4 mo. and is always keeps herself really clean. Her big 'ol hat was getting kinda dark and today was picture day. I had to put her upside down to get her crown cleaned. It looked like a lady getting her hair washed at the hair salon! As I was doing this I realized that I have for sure lost my marbles. Never thought I would be giving a chicken the spa treatment.

She is my special girl. She has not been in the garden with me for a few weeks now. Even after being treated to a bath she was her happy self and sang the sweetest songs to me the whole time during her photo shoot in the garden. Such a luv bug

We have thunder! Sure hope there's some rain to follow.

Wouldn't you know that after that wildfire talk a couple days ago, we had one in my community? Little old lady decided to burn a tree stump. The stupid stump had been there for 2 yrs and she finally decided that she was tired of looking at it - to heck with the burn ban. Burned 2 miles and 3 houses before they put it out. Thankfully it was on the other side of a road from our place and they we're able to keep it from jumping.

Here you go, Jockeyeba.

This is my Scarlet Macaw. Scarlets are spectacular in flight. Their tail feathers are long and flexible and are like ribbons if they are dodging about through the trees or just for fun.

Very scary bird!

Below is my Red Fronted Macaw on alert, keeping a watchful eye on the sky. RFMs are a very endangered species in the wild with only about 1,400 individuals left. She is a captive-bred bird. These are the only two I fly here in Texas. I used to fly an African Grey parrot in Saudi Arabia and in the Caribbean, but there is too great a risk from agile forest predators here on my Oak covered property. I worry most about Coopers hawks. She (my African Grey) can out fly a Peregrine falcon by dodging at the last minute, but a Coopers can dodge as well as she can and for a short distance are really fast. My macaws are big enough and armed well enough (with their beak) that there aren't too many raptors that are desperate enough to take them on. I know, mistakes happen, and raptors are opportunistic predators.

Awesome!

It's been raining down here for about a week now, and finally the sun came out today. But wouldn't you know it, the moment the sun came out, two of our chickens went broody.

You'd think they'd know that summer is over and fall is coming. Yes, I know you're game birds and excellent mothers. Now get off your high horse and lay me some eggs, haha!

Since you enjoyed the pictures so much, here are some more. The pictures of the African Grey aren't very good. She's a small fast grey bird--not as easy to take a picture of as the Scarlet, but she is my favorite bird.

Excellent shots! Reminds me of Venezuela. Where did you take these pictures and what kind of camera?

I absolutely adore African Greys. I swore I'd have one some day but really, I don't still because I know I would not give one the attention it needed.

Wanted to show off a 4 month old buff O boy of mine. The watermark is because I posted it on the EO thread and people have ripped off pictures from that thread before.
