Make no mistake, I've been clonked in the head by a horse too. And stepped on, and fallen on, and you name it. I even shoed horses for around 8 years and oddly enough, never got for real kicked. I mean kicked so that it connected well.

I really think that most times horses intend to miss. I've only dealt with one dangerous horse, a gelding, who when walking the shed row would reach up with every stride trying to get you. He should have been euthanized. I hope someone did instead of passing him off.

I have an outside kitty that appeared on my front porch in the middle of an ice storm. I'm out in the middle of 83 acres, 1/2 mile from the road, and if you didn't know my house was back here you would think this was just land. I do not know if he was dumped or born near here and felt the "vibe" of this place, but he stayed and is just the nicest cat.

I also have horses and 5 years ago one of mine clocked me in the chin with his shod hoof. Broke my jaw in 3 places! I'm lucky, he could very well have killed or paralyzed me. I had to have surgery to rebuild my jaw, and I get random bouts of vertigo, but everything else is good. I kept working with that horse until about 6 weeks ago when a friend of mine (a very good cowboy) expressed interest in him. Now he's on a trial run with that friend. I hope it works. He's a cool horse, just not my horse.

Oh yes! My cat was a stray that was found behind a house with a litter of kittens. She was taken and spayed and the little ones eventually found homes. It was the guy next door that did this but she decided, after a few months, that she liked me. How could I possibly say no? He rehabs and cares for any stray he finds so he's always looking for good homes. And my Kiki found one all by herself. Best cat I ever had. And we had cats all my life. This one is a real gem.

MY cat is Kiki !! He is a black cat and my 2 year old niece would say, "He's a bad kiki!" because my husband thought it was funny. But the name Kiki stuck!

I had a Paso Fino stallion many years ago. Small horse, but once I walked too far in front of him he reared up and tried to tag me in the head with his hooves. ....took him in the next day to have his nuts cut. Unfortunately, he didn't take to it too well and he lost a great amount of weight. I think it was two years later before he finally looked good again.

His name was Picante and it was appropriate!

Anyone have their own website?

I just signed up for a free trial for one and registered my web name. I still need to register the business name in Texas and get my food tax permit. I've been wanting to do it for a while and since the Texas Cottage Food law has improved, I thought maybe I would start to slowly grow the site so that in the next 3 or 4 years when I retire it will be running consistently. We can't sell food online at this time, but you can advertise for home and farmers market sales.

Several years ago, I had a tax permit for soap-making, but I put that on pause when soooo many people started making soap and I didn't have many customers who actually paid, anyway.

I have never been to Abilene or the area.  It seems like our area is becoming more and more arid over the years.  I don't know if you come to the Austin area much, but the amount of dead trees in the wooded areas is incredible! 

I wonder if the tomatoes failing has to do with the ground heating up too much in the raised beds?

Drip irrigation is a great idea.  I would love to hook up some sort of irrigation.  Watering by hand, which is what I did, took about two hours.

I think I also need to add something to counter the nitrogen rich chicken manure in the raised beds....maybe some wood ash, bonemeal and kelp meal.  Another good excuse for the hubs to burn the woodpile.

This was my solution to gardening here in Abilene during this drought. It is made almost completely of repurposed oil field junk.

Mine is Kiki for almost the same reason. I kept calling her Kitty Kitty and just finally shortened it to Kiki.

Everyone I'm really starting to get scared for Mandy she hasn't been online sence Friday. She told me some personal details before she left that I feel it's not my place to repeat. Could everyone pray for her hopefully she will be back soon! I miss her!!

I've kicked many a horse in the mouth that was trying that. I don't know if they intend to miss or not but when shoeing you learn to keep close and in contact with those back legs because if they do kick when you're there, all the end up doing is pushing you away. I've been "push kicked" this way a lot. But never hurt since I was too close for them to connect well on.
