Texas

Good morning everyone! (I beat Lisa to it this morning!!) :D

Mandy - I have Red Stars but they don't have any dark markings...just red and spotty white at (nearly) 8 weeks.

It looks like we have had a bit of rain but far eastern Bastrop County had some pretty good showers roll through there according to radar.

We are busy getting the house ready for our refi appraisal on Monday. I am not worried about it but I'm not fond of strangers strolling through my house!

Italia - I want to plant some Fall flowers and am thinking about mums....what else would be good to plant this time of year?

Okay I have an off-the-wall question for you folks up in the Abliene - Lubbock thereabouts....do you know anyone with the last names of Sturdivant or Bolin ? If so, please PM me.

Good morning everyone! (I beat Lisa to it this morning!!) :D
I think my day might be ruined now.

I heard something the other day and want to know if it is true: I was talking to a lady that rescues rabbits (those that are bought at Easter and then thrown away, etc.). She was telling me that after the county fairs that people from 4-H, FFA, etc. throw their chickens and rabbits away.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!

Lisa :)

Hey Texas peeps!

DH and I are fostering the cutest little rat terrier/Italian greyhound mix. She's ten years old and just wants to sleep all day.

Anybody in the Conroe area need a snuggle buddy? Or know someone who might?

I've known people over the years who give their animals away, or process them after showing.

...or maybe it's the parents who tell their children that "Bambi the lamb" went to "live on a farm"....!

This lady was saying that they could go to the fairgrounds and find live animals in the dumpster. I just find that hard to believe. These young kids are being taught how to raise and care for the animals. It just doesn't make sense. (Or as Judge Judy says, 'if it doesn't make sense, it isn't true'),

I know some breeders that will not bring their birds home after a show because they are afraid of bringing home a disease that will infect their whole flock.

If this is true, then what the heck is the point of it all? Why spend that time and effort in a bird just to show it off, then discard it afterwards. That makes absolutely NO sense to me. Isn't the bird you take to a show supposed to be the best specimen you have on hand? Why discard it instead of breeding it and duplicating the genetics? I don't get it...

Maybe they save eggs or breed their roos before the show?

It would seem to me that with all of the PETA types, that the literal throwing away of live animals would make headline news. I'm SURE it would in Travis County.

Do they not have a rep from like the Human Society or some other animal control group at the shows?
....I'm asking because I never participated in 4H (I wish!!). Nor do we have children or any other family members who do/did.
