It's raining buckets at the moment!

I didn't think about the chickens getting sick with the rain. I hope my babies had enough sense to go into the coop.

some of mine go in, some don't......my little chicks all went in the ducks are out in this loving it! usually only if they are babies they might not have tolerance for dampness...as long as the coop is dry

As part of my Texas Master Naturalist training I spent the entire morning (rain & shine) on a field trip to Lick Creek Park in College Station where we identified Texas native trees, shrubs, and grasses (and some invasive species as well). This was my first visit to this wonderful nature park that is less than 10 miles from our home. Lots of good birding, hiking, and riding trails too.

I think my day might be ruined now. 

I heard something the other day and want to know if it is true:  I was talking to a lady that rescues rabbits (those that are bought at Easter and then thrown away, etc.).  She was telling me that after the county fairs that people from 4-H, FFA, etc. throw their chickens and rabbits away.

Maybe they save eggs or breed their roos before the show?

It would seem to me that with all of the PETA types, that the literal throwing away of live animals would make headline news.   I'm SURE it would in Travis County.

Do they not have a rep from like the Human Society or some other animal control group at the shows?
....I'm asking because I never participated in 4H (I wish!!).  Nor do we have children or any other family members who do/did.

As a shower, and show parent, I can tell you I've NEVER seen live animals thrown away. Chickens are especially easy to over heat and will stress and pass away at shows. Rabbits aren't as bad. Our family has been showing livestock for 40 years. Never have I seen anyone throw away a live animal.

I have however had PETA people throw red paint on my champion rabbits. Their the only people I've ever seen damage an animal.

Generally speaking (there's always one odd out) people who show animals take very good care and have high pride in their animals and that generally doesn't require a "governing body" like a humane society to over see it.

Never mind as soon as posted it pretty much stopped, sun it back out and it is humid now. The boys are happy though, I let them back out. They are getting much better at catching insects.

Does anyone use cast iron for cooking? I bought a dutch oven a few years back, started using it recently. It is super heavy but I LOVE cooking with it. So I just bought a 12, 10, 8 & 6.5 inch. Can't wait to start using them. Hoping to get rid of all my "no stick" pans and just use these.

Y'all should see the double brooder DH just built me. It is so awesome! 8 feet long and 2 ft wide, with a removable middle wall. Flip open tops and flip down sides for easy cleaning. So excited, it is so much nicer than our first ones! Yay!

They are crazies. Ruined 3 of my best does fur, it never came back in right
