Texas

It poured all night here.  Went out to the shop to check on the chicks and almost busted my butt in the mud.  Still have yet to go feed the big birds; they like to make a sloppy mess when it rains and I am not looking forward to it.  They are like pigs in poop when it rains.....

Rained all night here too almost 6" the water just flowed across our backyard couldn't get one coop door open until I moved all the mud & sticks :barnie

My new brooder. So, here's my question. I am wanting to add the NNs in with these JGs and just let them run together and grow up together. They are a week apart. I got the JGs a week ago Friday, and the NNs this last Thursday. Right now I haven't put them together because I am afraid of the NNs trying to squeeze out of the 1 inch wire (had that happen before when they were really small). So in a few days when they are a little bigger, do you think they would all do well together? I plan on putting them in a run together until they are all closer to laying age and then separating everybody. Anybody with experience on that? There are 25 JGs and 17 in the NN batch so almost equal numbers. Thank you!

Well, she is gone.

We are pretty close together, though I am South of you. Our rain gauge broke, so I don't know exactly how much we got, but every time I woke up last night it was raining cats, dogs and large elephants. We have standing water outside, so I know it must have been quite a bit!

So sorry. Lost a chick myself last night to the cold rain (I was out of town). Sounds like it could be Merritts disease if all your chicks are dying in the same way around the same age. Did you have them vaccinated?

This is the only one that has actually gotten sick. The others have all been victims of dogs/animals. The last four chicks I bought came from a breeder lady in Terrell...(she has quite the setup! look her up thechickenlady) I believe that she said they were vaccinated.
