Texas

Anyone else notice how hard it is to get out of bed now that it's chilly in the mornings? Of course, I put the cozy flannel sheets on the bad, so that's not helping...

47 degrees here again; brrr!

Yes!!! I like to say that I live in Texas for a reason. Give me hot summers any day. I dislike the cold. And anything under 78 degrees is cold in my book...

I am right there with ya!

My DH says that we moved to TX so I would stop complaining about the cold so much. I sure do love the weather down here, that's for sure!

Did ya notice that with the same pillow, mattress, and the blanket ..... at night, we turn and turn around but can't fall in sleep, the pillow too high, the mattress to hard, the blanket too hot ......... then in the morning, it's so warm good that we can't get out. .... Hmmmm, what's wrong with us !

Anyone on here breed livestock guard dogs?  I want a pup to raise up with my birds.

I'm looking for a good French mastiff female to breed with my Odie! He has Been a great LGD for our chickens, but he's just there for scare factor! But I will ask my doc for the Great Pyrenees breeder we have at the farm!

I've done some research on LGD on the web and from homesteadingtoday. At first I thought I wanted a GP but I found out that they really like to roam and I believe it because our neighbor's from about 1/4 mile away routinely patrols the front of our property...she's friendly (hmmm, haven't seen her in a while now that I think about it....).

My suggestion is to thoroughly research what type of dog breed will be best for your chickens AND your property requirements. :)

You also have to take into account the summer heat. Great Pyrenees are probably not good for Texas. Anatolian Shepherds should cope better than most with the Texas heat.

If refrigerated, how long before fertility is effected in eggs? Have a hen going broody, and want to place only blue eggs under her, but have had any in two days. Can I put 3&4 day old refrigerated (warmed to room temp before putting under her) without really reducing fertility?

I'm trying to identify some little weeds that have grown up in my parrot aviary since the rains. It looks like chickweed, but it has little yellow flowers. Can chickweed have yellow flowers? Thanks.
