I looked up what ST RUN was....

The term ST RUN refers to chickens that are boxed as hatched. Generally an order of 100 will have 50 males and 50 females. The smaller number of chicks you order, the less likely you are to have the 50/50 ratio. An example would be an order of 6 chicks could have 2 pullets and 4 males reducing your ratio to 33% females. There is no guarantee of the ratio of pullets to males when you order st. runs.

I also don't want pullets. I need day old chicks so they can be shipped.

AMERAUCANAS

Ameraucanas, known as the "Easter Egg Breed", are a multicolored breed. They have beards, muffs and a normal tail with a tail head. They are often incorrectly called Araucanas, which have ear tuffs, are rumpless, and do not have a tail head which gives them a bunny tail appearance. Most of the chicks sold as Araucanas are really Ameraucanas, which are excellent, efficient producers of large eggs of many colors and shades including blue and green.
Standard weights at maturity are males-5 lbs. and hens-4 lbs.

And Ideal putting out ads like this is what causes confusion when people buy what they think are Ameraucanas from them, only to find out later that they are EEs and not Ameraucanas. The Ameraucana thread spends most of its time explaining to people that they got lied to when they bought their birds.
Ideal knows their birds are EEs and still promotes them as Ameraucanas.

I think a lot of places do that. My Pet Chicken sells both EE's and Ameraucanas. There is a big price difference too.

I called my local feed store and found out they order their chicks in from all over the place (including the hatchery I posted about-it's supposed to be all cleared up now though). I think it is better to get chicks from only one source. Health reasons is the first thing that comes to mind. I am going to order my chicks.

That said, is My Pet Chicken a good place to get from? I guess I will look up reviews on them.

I found reviews on here for MPC and found out they are actually a middle man for Meyer Hatchery. I will order from them instead. I save money that way too. They also sell sexed chicks. :)

I have a neighbour that does home remodeling and I spoke to him about getting his left over wood. Yeah! I can't wait to get some to start my coop. I am going to paint it white to match the trim on my house.

Good morning, Miss Lisa!!

It's overcast and 60 here 25 miles east of Austin!  No fog.

Henfortherapy - I have not candled before.  I would probably catch my hair on fire.  :weee eeeeeee!

kschickens - You asked about Silkies near Austin???   We have someone on in Elgin who has Silkies.  This is her FaceBook page, but she hasn't been on here much lately.

....and to all of the newbies WELCOME :welcome
I have Silkies. I started with a trio of nicely bred Silkies and hatched 9 out in my incubator. The chicks are turning out nicely. Only problem is mine are all white! I'm hoping to get some colored ones soon.

I put a hole in an aluminum pie pan and pass the ear candle thru it. I have not had a sinus infection since I started using them I use to get a serious sinus infection twice a year. Now I candle about every quarter. I only need one ear candle for both ears.

I had a coon coming every night after the girls went to roost. It would finish up their food and move on. Very old coon. I don't think it is coming anymore. Haven't seen traces of him.

something a bit similar happend to me, the gap on my coops door was a bit over 2 inches, turned out to be a cat. I found this out when my neighbor me borrow his dog on the 3 day i woke up to find the cat inside the coop, apperantly the dog scared him so much that he would not dare get close to the door to climb out.

My post got mixed up with gameandmore's. Strange.

My girl's get locked up pretty good at night. The teens are trying to roost in the trees, so I have to be with them to make sure they go in the coop to roost. I am to frightened something might get them if they were just up in a tree. Whatnot the Barred Rock 4 month old has done it a couple of times cause the time change messed me up and I missed at dusk.

What is the average age that a cock starts to crow and mate? I've never had a Roo before, so I'm not sure. The 7 week old GCMARAN's I had were already showing a more pronounced comb. Legs showed no clear signs of boyhood until 25 weeks. He'll be 27 weeks on Wed.
Teach Him??! Your not serious are you?
Males normally crow betweem 5-8 mos, depending on how they feel. If the yard is donminated by other males, then the youngster will crow later. If there is no male and the youngster feels he is the Man of the House then he may crow at 4-5 mos . The first week always worth to watch or record as they need to collect lots of air before they can blow out the noise. Some crow with broken pitches, some of them flap the wing to ..."gain more courage".

I'd been raising roosters for almost half a century, and I heard once a young boy complained that his hen wouldn't hatch anything 'cause his stag did not know how to top. I was not sure if the young boy knew how to either. Well, where is uncle Hung?

I can't order from them.  I am only getting 5 chicks and they have to be hens in order for me to keep them. From what I saw on the sight, they don't sex the chicks they sell.  My Pet Chicken will sell sexed chicks....

I'm going to talk with the feed store this week about the hatchery.  Maybe it is a different one.

They do sex the chicks. When you order the pullets, They give a disclaimer that they are only 90% accurate. My first order was 20 leghorns pullets. All 20 were girls!
