Haha, here she is .. coming home after staying overnight with a pretty boy in the neighbor yard. And all this morning poor Lisa was staring at her neighbor house when they have some kind of suspicious BBQ on a Thurs morning.

I found a black widow spider in the container I store my hay in. As I was trying to kill it one of my hens jumped up and knocked the lid closed. She did that 2 more times when I opened it. The 4th time I openned it she jumped up and in the container and ate the spider before I could do anything. I didn't know if it would kill her or not. It didn't. Then I thought...should we eat her next few eggs? We did. Nothing happened. My hens love to eat small snakes. I wonder if they eat a rattlesnake if it would kill them or make them ill?

I found my missing hen. Last saw her Sunday, around 2. Gave up looking for her yesterday. Today, my oldest nephew was unloading cattle feed, and opened up an empty trash can, slid a whole bag of beet pulp in, followed by loud sqwacking. 0.o. I heard all this from a distance away. I was in the front of the barn, him in the back. Then I hear "aunt amber!!!!! Something's in here!!! Come get it!!!"

Mind you he's 6'4, 220lbs, and a manly age of 14. And I has to save him from the unknown noise. Apparently, in his mind, it was a rabid raccoon. And I know how to handle them. (I don't remember rabid raccoon training in my tech school, FYI. :) )

Went and found my EE hen, curled up in the bottom of the trash can. Even with a pretty blue egg! She seems no worse for the wear either. Alert, not too dehydrated, and doesn't seem to have lost any condition either. Let her have some water and put her in the coop, and up on the roost she went.

If I wasn't so happy to see her I think I would have strangled her. Good grief, I am raising children again!!

Lisa :)
She may have been seduced by the neighbor rooster. We lost most of our girls to the rooster next door. The girls spend their nights piled up together with him on top of an old coop next door and their days foraging around our yards.

Showbarnmom, congratulations on finding your hen!! Great story!

Teri, the nearest roosters are about a 1/2 mile down the road. She has two handsome roosters right here!!! At least for tonight, she is in the coop!!

Lisa :)

The cold front is coming! Supposed to hit here around midnight.

I mowed the lawn, mostly to clean up the leaves, got the last few windows sealed up with weather stripping (no more drafts!) and put the vent covers on the foundation vents. That's about as ready as I can be for the cold. Not looking forward to the next few days. I hate the cold!

Good News!  I opened my door and there is my missing Australorp!!! :weee I spent most of the morning looking and there she is.  I am going to try to keep a close eye on her and see if she isn't sneaking off to a hidden nest.

Lisa :)
I'm so happy!!! I was worried!!!!
