Texas

Hello all! I haven't posted anything in so long! To be honest, I've been feeling a little under the weather, so I started taking my iron and fish oil supplements again. Suddenly, I'm rejuvenated! I was painting for hours yesterday!

The Rio Grande Valley is going through a cold front currently. If the below-50 temps continue, it will be the first time in 40 years that we'll have had continuously cold weather.
Yesterday it was raining so much and it was cold. I went outside today and found two of my Sultans freezing to death in the mud. It looks like they were being pecked. I brought them (and the Frizzle chicks) inside and am preparing them a favorite: high protein chick starter oatmeal. It will be nice and warm for them. No deaths, thank goodness. I'm glad I went outside when I did.

And I am sad to say that a possum managed to slip past my rat terriers and killed my favorite chicken, Miss Cutie. I didn't find her until a week after she disappeared, which breaks my heart. I'm looking into setting up a trap and then shooting it. I can't stand possums.

That's it, I believe. I'm gonna get back to painting. I have loads of decorating to do this year and loads to prove (one of my relatives insinuated that I couldn't paint, ugh). I'm a woman who loves to prove people wrong.

Fifties sound WARM right now!!! We have been in the 30's and I think topped out at 40 today and it's been misting all day. :(

I am so sorry about your chickies!! :(

How is the job going?

We've stayed in the low-40s since yesterday. The chickens hate it and, honestly, so do I. It's too wet to enjoy the cool air. Our yard flooded yesterday from all the rain. My poor Sultans are staying inside until the wet weather passes. I'm gonna fatten them up.

So far, I'm testing my eggs. They are being filled with hot glue and then painted. It seems to be working. I found my huge, hi-temp glue gun. It's doing the trick! Oh, and I think I'm going to try something a little new. It seems super simple, but I've got to test it before I start raving, haha! For now, I'm gonna keep it secret. ;)

I can't wait to see!

I am hoping mean 18 year old horse and not a teenage person.  There are times I think my 19 year old son would benefit from a night in the barn (if I had one). ;)

:lau No kids I didn't get time to start that bread, hope to get going tomorrow + make some Zucchinni bread, already have shredded up in 1 C packages in the freezer :)

Well, when you put it that way. No, I won't make you wait. :)

Here you go.

Cranberry Nut Bread

1 orange
2 cups flout
¾ cup sugar
1 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
½ tsp salt
2 tbsp oil
1 egg
1 ½ cups fresh (or frozen) cranberries, chopped
½ cup walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350*

Wash orange; remove seeds and white center membrane. Grind whole orange (including rind) in food processor. Should equal ¾ cup.

In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In a medium bowl beat oil and egg, add orange. Stir into flour mixture just until flour is moistened. If batter is too thick add a little orange juice. Gently stir in cranberries and walnuts.

Pour batter into a greased 8 ½ x 4 ½-loaf pan. Bake 70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool bread in pan 10 minutes; with a sharp knife loosen bread from sides of pan then remove from bread pan.

Cool completely on a wire rack.

I love cardamom bread!  I have a really good recipe for it that I will share soon.  It is the most requested bread I make.

Another highly requested bread is my cranberry orange bread.  It is awesome and has very little oil in it.  Very unusual for a quick bread.  :)  I'll share that one in a few days.

You are going to make us wait?????:th
