O
A new month starts tomorrow.  Where on earth did this past year go?!?

Here is an incredible bread recipe for the Christmas season.  Wow is it good!

I am done with my Christmas shopping and most of the presents are wrapped.  :)  I put up the little tree today along with a few other decorations.  I am almost ready for Christmas.

Oh my. I am just getting over Thanksgiving. Need to decorate. My daughter came and stayed with my Mom so I could run into town and do some shopping. Strolling thru all the Christmas decorations helps get me in the mood to decorate. Watch the Christmas plates you buy. I got one today to use for cookies. I got it home and on a little sticker on the back it says. Not for food use.

Morning Lisa dear, welcome back.

Thanks all for your concerns and advices. We are working on new dogs. We will visit a friend with a 5 mo female pup that has been raised around chicken. I will look into paper for more puppies. we used to have 3 large dogs to guard a big yard. Two died in the heat (2 yrs ago) and the 3rd died a couple days ago.

Warm weather is helpful to wrap the cage getting ready for next weekend cold.

Sooo on my way home from Athens, tx where I spent thanksgiving at my parents, I stopped at a place in Houston that everyone tells me has good chickens. I ended up with a black australorp and 2 Easter eggers. With my leg horn, who has refused to begin laying, I really hope to get some eggs already!!!
How about those football games yesterday!!!!!
I was thrilled that Baylor pulled it off!

Personally I find a shotgun and rifle a better deterrent. The coyotes here are not afraid of our large dogs, even when our dogs are practically trying to break down the fence to run into the pasture after the coyotes. But a shotgun...that is usually a more frightening thing to a coyote and decreases the risk of injury and death to a beloved dog.

Would also try some of the "night eyes" that you put up around the barn yard to trick the predators into thinking there is a larger predator already there that could eat them.

I am really thankful I don't have a huge predator problem. Crossing my fingers it stays that way. If Whatnot my barred rock doesn't start roosting in the coop, I am afraid a raccoon or something is going to get her some night when I am not here to call her out of the tree and put her to bed.

The best dog breeds for chickens would be an Akbash or Great Pyrenese. Both are excellent flock guards. I had an Akbash snatch a Bluejay out of the air for getting too close to my guinea pigs in my back yard. My rotties are good with my hens & don't bother them. I don't know that all would be.
