Thank you for the tip! I will start looking around for sawdust. (It ought to be cheaper than the sand) I got stuck in the garden again this year.

It had been raining and everything was dried up except for parts of the garden. I wanted to get in there and pick tomatoes, jalapenos, etc. I was trying to be careful where I stepped and wasn't! I fell with my right leg going at an odd angle. The more I struggled, the worse it got. Thank goodness my husband was home that day! O it is a shame we didn't have a camera. We both were up to our knees in mud and I wasn't helping matters by laughing! That was the 2nd time I had got stuck, Ken's first. heheee

From what I've read, adding sand to clay just makes concrete.

Once on a spring ski trip in the Rockies, I was at the top of the mountain watching my husband go down the slope. He fell at the bottom and was jerking and convulsing. I was in a panic, fearing he was dying and raced down the hill to try to help him. He had fallen into deep, wet snow with his arms completely buried in the snow that held him like concrete. He couldn't get free. I was laughing so hard, I couldn't help him at all and the more he struggled, the more I laughed. It took a long, long time before I could dig him out.

My egg production during this winter fell off drastically. I recently mounted a small overhead daylight bulb for my girls, let me tell you they love it & started laying eggs like crazy. So, if any of you are having the same problem, I strongly recommend the daylight bulb.

Thanks for all the gardening info. I plan on planting broccoli soon. Maybe some onion sets. I'm not a big fan of onions but fresh from the garden sure are good! I won't bother with the seeds.

My seed sprouter came last night! I have alfalfa seeds in there right now. I really like how easy this is to use and I can leave an empty tray on the top to keep the kitties (who know better than to get on the counter but do it anyway) from munching them. I have chia seeds on order from Amazon. I was able to get them for half the price of buying locally. Love a deal!

I had my ice damaged ligustrums removed today. I tried to trim the bent branches out and it was too big a job for me and I decided they would look too funny to keep. One was in the process of dying and the rest would have probably followed soon too. I was able to save one by the garage that had the least amount of damage. The two by the house both went. I really need to tackle foundation plants soon. I can't believe people could live in this house for over 40 years and no one thought about landscaping it! Now the garage is looking worse than ever. I wish I could afford to have that fixed. I need deeper pockets!

I want to plant a rose of Sharon (when I can afford one - boy are they expensive!) and flowers here. Maybe more herbs too.

If you use a coarse sand (river sand), it helps the clay gumbo. The fine sand will make it worse.

I believe in Webster dictionary they defined this as "Kodak moment". Your husband should tell you "wait a minute, let me turn on the camera for the facebook. one.. two ... three.. say cheese"

love Rose of Sharon. I started one from a wood cutting 3 years ago. This Summer in was loaded with buds. I was so excited to see those blossems. The next morning when I looked at it I was so disappointed. The deer had eaten every bud and then some. Poog.

How did you do that?  I can get cuttings from my old house to start some.  

I take a cutting and dip it in rooting hormone a few inches, put it in a pot with potting soil and keep it moist. About half my plants are from wood cuttings.when you see new growth, plant in the type of soil and conditions it likes.
