Texas

I completely forgot to check in before I headed to the show this morning here in CS ... did any of you show anything? It was our first time to attend since moving here .... LOVED IT. And, after we watched the Serama judging (junior show), my daughter fell in LOVE with Seramas. Guess we'll be finding some show quality of those soon.

I spent the morning at the show. It is a really good way to get to see all the breeds and varieties. I picked up the exhibitors list and went around to the different breeds and when I saw birds I liked I made a note by the exhibitor as to the breed so I can find those easier. They had a pigeon show also and a large Game entry. The egg show was pretty cool. I took a couple of pictures at that table. I didn't take any of the birds - sort of self imposed etiquette that you should ask permission from the owner to take pics... I saw TexasMJAs SLWs but didn't get to say hi to her.
We won Best of Breed Wyandotte, Best Variety SLW , Best Variety White Wyandotte, and (2) 1st place, (2) 2nd place, and 4th place.

I have been busy today!

When I got up this morning I wrote letters to my soldiers and got them in the mail. Then I cleaned the living room and kitchen before heading outside.

I spent 4.5-5 hours outside (don't eat breakfast, no lunch) working in the yard. I got my raised bed in and looking nice. Just need dirt and new bed in front of it to hide the ugly cinderblocks. Plants too, but not much in stock at the nurseries right now.
Then I tackled the bed on the side of the garage. The dirt was up too high on the siding and the edging (rocks) was all wonky from that was done yesterday. All fixed now. Bed looks much better. Garage still looks horrible.
After that I worked on the other side of the garage and transplanted my fennel there. I also transplanted 2 lavender bushes and some lemon thyme that was taking over the herb garden. It now has a bed it can spread as much as it wants to in.
After that I turned the garden soil over. I found 2 HUGE worms! All those leaves in there are doing some good.
My storm debris wasn't picked up ( the guy didn't pick up anyones on my block ) so I decided to move it and bundle tie all of it. I thought we didn't have to bundle the storm debris...

I also had a guy out to look at my poor garage roof. It is in really bad shape and I can't let it go any longer. RATS!

When I came in I got back to cleaning. Had supper then finished cleaning. Just a couple loads of laundry left to do.

My back is sore. I hope it feels better tomorrow.

4th day for sprouting oats. I thought it wasn't working. Then I put my glasses on.

Yippee!
I normally soak my oats for 2 days. If 1 day, it's ok; however, after 2 days, the water got a little cloudy, muddy but the chicken love it.
Why you soaked 4 days? are you trying to sprout it?

Yes sprouting. I soaked 1 day. Then rinsed 2 times a day and allowed to drain with wet towel draped over container I had poked holes in the bottom and rested on it's lid on another little plastic thingy to let it drain into the lid and not set in water.

I was so impressed with the Juniors. There were some very nice entries there. Seramas are soooo cute!

You really need to rinse it more often. All kinds of pathogens grow in it. I soak for 12 to 24 hours, depending on the seed, but change the water a few times. Then, I just rinse it thoroughly several times a day. That cloudy stuff is bacteria and fungi. I keep my sprouts beside my sink in a metal mesh strainer over a big stainless steel bowl (to collect the drips).
