Speaking of rehoming...

If anyone is looking for bearded Belgian d'uccle roosters, let me know. I've got 3 or 4 (might keep one roo). They're just over 6 weeks old, healthy, friendly, and gorgeous. I also have a pullet around the same age as the Roos. I haven't decided if I want to part with her, though. They're super tame house chickens, and I love them to death, but pretty soon they'll be too big for their coop... And I don't have room for another one in the house. Haha.

I'm not looking to get any money out of them, I just want to make sure they go to a loving home :)

Seeing alot of talk about brooding.... how does one prevent this behaivor to begin with? Or can you? (Remember I'm a newbie all this. Patience lol)

There is a lot of things you can do. Things like taking them out of the nest and not letting any eggs stay in the boxes helps. If you really wanted to break a very committed broody hen, you could move her to another coop. If she goes broody in those new surroundings, move her back to her original coop. Keep moving her. Do what you wouldn't do around a wild bird's nest that you are hoping to watch raise a clutch, lol!

I think they are really funny when they are being broody. If you open the nest box, the Silkies positively expand as they puff up every little excuse of a feather. They make the most ridiculous noises, too, little sqeals, squeaks and growls. The worst is when you take them off the nest and put them on the ground and they stay flat as a pancake for hours. They can get into a complete daze being broody--it's like they are on drugs.

Broody hens don't bother me much unless they start to lose weight. You have to watch that they eat and drink enough even if they aren't sitting on any eggs--they think they are. They can drop a lot of weight.

I meant, did you have your home inspected before you bought it? That would verify there was no hail damage before you bought it.
Yes I did and there was some at that time. Not much though. I had the worst inspector in the world. He missed so much stuff. Some of it could have caused us harm and my house could have burned down! I have fixed those issues. I am going to turn this guy into the state. He should not be inspecting homes.

That has happened to me. The egg hasn't hardened all the way, so it doesn't break.

must have squeezed her too hard.

I never squeeze my chickens! I gently lift them--they almost don't know they've left the nest except the scenery changes, lol!
