I am so eggcited!!!!!!
Miss Priss is definitely broody. First time in her life of 3 years. Wow. I have to find chicks. I will call Callahan's. They are in SE Austin. That's where I got my 4 BO pullets, my very first girls.
400

She is still on the nest hours after I took the egg she had layed away. She let me hand feed her sprouted oats while she was on the nest. I may give her a week and then get her some chicks. Light Sussex real Lace Wyandotte? More Buffs???

Callahan's is awesome! For a feed/general store, you can find some really cool birds there. Every time I've been in there, they've had silver laced Wyandottes, which is what I'd get if I had room for standard sized chickens. They're gorgeous!

They always seem to have really interesting and uncommon bantams there as well, which is just too tempting for me. I have found my Sebright, my lemon blue modern game bantam, 5 Mille Fleur D'uccles, my porcelain D'uccle, and my awesome little frizzled Cochin. Aside from the Sebright developing a cross beak, they've all been just outstandingly beautiful, perfectly healthy and have amazing personalities.

I am soooo excited!

I just completed the purchase of two show quality bantam Cochins pullets. They should arrive Thursday or Friday. One, a splash for the frazzle boy I have and the other, a mottled, just for me! The breeder, himself a judge, said they would be ready to show in a couple of local shows in March unless they decide to go broody. I'll keep them far, far away from my Silkies!

I'm still trying to complete the purchase of one other pullet, a blue, from another reputable breeder and exhibitor, again for my frazzle boy. She should be show quallity as well.

I am so excited to be able to buy a quality birds from such respected breeders. I feel very blessed!

You bet!

I now have to frantically learn all I can about how to keep the foot feathers in good condition so I don't ruin what the breeder has so carefully maintained.

And I need to learn all about AI. It seems quality Cochins have too many feathers to be bred naturally. Fortunately, my good friend an avian vet, was, I believe, the first person ever to AI some rare bird at the London Zoo. Either the first person to successfully AI any bird, or maybe successfully AI some very endangered bird. Can't remember the details.

He'll have a good laugh teaching me this.

It's almost 4am ... Lisa and her skunk still soundly sleep. Don't worry, take your time, you have another 30 min or until the skunk wakes up .. whatever comes first.

I read a thread in New Member Introduction, someone alerted us of Quoll Attack. Many wonder what a Quoll is. I have to look it up and this is like a big rat of 15 lbs... wow, if we can chew on possum stew, then this is a lot of soup to eat till Chinese New Year.
