Texas

Yesterday, my pullets were in the San Antonio sorting facility and my local post office tried for a long time to call them to arrange that I could pick them up yesterday rather than this morning. Typical Post Office fashion, the San Antonio sorting facility simply wouldn't answer their phone, so I waited to get them this morning. The first employee arrives at 5:30 and they called me at 5:45. Such a different attitude in my local post office than Brookshire11's post office! I LOVE the mottled girl! She looks very typey to my uneducated eye and has an incredible attitude. I haven't gone over them, just looked at them in the pen, but I opened the box, put the mottled in the pen and she stood up on her feet and looked around, calm and happy as can be. The other, the splash, was flattened in the box when picked her up and stayed flattened on the ground. She did drink and eventually stood up, and has been in the feed dish, but she'll flatten herself if I so much as look at her. They had a big piece of eaten water melon in their box, so they didn't have too tough a trip. I hadn't appreciated the advice for small flaked shavings or even some sort of corn cob bedding until I took the splash out of the box. She has a massive amount of feathering on her feet. My feather-footed birds are two frazzled Cochins (hardly any feathering and what's there breaks) and hatchery Silkies. I'm going to have to buy a different shavings today. The pictures were taken from above, so the angle isn't good to show their type. They were hatched in June. I think the mottled should be named Morticia, after the wife in the Addam's family with her swirl of black at her feet. Here are my new girls: This picture doesn't show her very well, but I think it shows how typey the mottled is: I didn't get any good pictures of the splash. She really wanted to just flatten on the ground, close her eyes and pretend her new reality didn't exist. She is a little bigger than the mottled and very heavily feathered.
Congratulations on your new birds!! They are beautiful! Lisa :)
X2 !!

Ok i need help...
i just lost another ee that seemed ok last night. It started doing the same thing the Mille did before it passed: continually opening and closing its beak before its eyes stot open and it stretched out and passed. I need to know if this is a shipping/normal issue or if its something i can prevent.
I have a Barred chick on its way out as well..
this will make 5 that have died since arriving. Ive had them a little over 24 hours

:( so sorry

Hello Texas people! I am in need of some assistance! Recently I lost two of my birds leaving one all by her lonesome. My dog had opened my coop door and you can figure out the rest =/ I changed the lock on the door to one I actually have to unlock to get in there and made an enclosed run, so I am praying for no more problems. Trouble is now I am having a hard time finding older pullet/hens. She is probably about 8-9 months old, a lil phoenix hen, and she can be a little bossy so I know I can't try putting anything too young in with her. Anyone have any spare hens they are looking for a home for within an hour from Dallas, TX?
Pretty pullet :p

Theres a poultry buy sell trade facebook page for ennis ccounty. It may be a bit of a drive depensing on where youre at but not too terrible. You may have some luck on there. Theres a lady selling EE, OE, and Cream Legbars soon. She might have some pullets.

I called Williams Sonoma tonight about an order I placed with them and ended up talking about chickens to the lady helping me for over half an hour. lol! That was one of the best customer service calls I have ever made. :)

Here are my remaining girls!
The EE on the left side is the one with the "bubble".
The Barred Rock in the upper left corner has been just sleeping all day. She opens her eyes, chirps, and can walk. She just has no desire to eat or drink by herself..
The EE has been laying down for a few hours. Pretty sure come morning Ill be down to 6 little girls.
Ive cleaned their brooder twice today, just to be safe. Pretty sure i clean their food and water dishes every hour too...lol.
And if I only have the 6 come morning, Im keeping them all! 6 isnt a stretch from 4-5.
Done with the waiting period! Its been harder than i thought....lol
