Where do you live? I'm going up to Boerne and Lytle this week (to pick up some birds, actually, haha). If you are near there, I can take her. My hens are game-y and won't let anyone push them around.

Oh, and my flock is nearly always allowed to free range. The only times they don't are during outdoor events, barbeques, or when Dad mows the lawn.

I live in Dallas, Tx 75224. I should be home all week except for saturday cause I work at a vet clinic from 7-1. Your place sounds perfect for her.

That is a really long drive though.

She sounds like most of my hens. All my game hens are still a little wound up, too, so one toe out of line and they let you know, haha!

I'm picking up the birds on Sunday, but let me inquire about the distance. I don't want Mom to regret taking me with her on this trip, haha! I might have to fill up the tank for her, hehe!

Alright, as much as I love her, Trouble is going to have to go. She needs a home with someone who could free range her more thna I can and has a hen who will put her in her placed! These three new girls are too gentle to tell her who is boss! They keep running and hiding from her and she will not give up on attacking them. When I let them all out in the yard together she will randomly run across the yard to attack them!

She has proceeded to attack the buff brahma enough that now she has freaked and torn her toenail off! I am doctoring her up now. Poor big bird. Does anyone want this lil phoenix hen? She needs a home with someone who has a hen that will not put up with her nonsense. She has a very dominant personality, but she will willingly be picked up by people when she is in a cuddly mood and be pet and hand fed. She lays a medium sized white egg. I get 5-6 eggs a week from her normally. Again, she would probably do well with someone who has a free range flock, or someone with hens that will put her in her place. She is a wild child. Her wings are clipped due to her flying over the fence too often here in the city, but she still jumps up to her four foot perches just fine. Please let me know if anyone wants her. I can't ship, since I honestly don't know how.

I have a dominant hen and she would probably be put in her place simply by being new to the area. I'd be willing to come up and get her, if you haven't already found her a home. I'm in Fort Worth.

Alright, just give me a holler about what is going on. That way I can give granthamkk an answer =)

If Ibejaran i sunable to come get her sunday, then I will let you know. I want to give people a chance to get birds, just like people have done for me. What types of birds do you have in your flock granthamkk? I warn you she is very feisty, even when she was first added to my flock of original 4 hens she quickly attacked her way up to the upper ranks, even if she was almost half their size. She has spunk.

On another note! I also have a 6 hole metal nest box if anyone is interested, I took the tabs out of parts of the sides so I could screw it to the wall at floor level. I have just been putting hay and bedding in it. It could use another coat of paint, it looks kind of funny since I painted it with white outdoor paint and clear spray on paint. With only 3-6 birds I don't need 6 nests, it just takes up space for me. They are all in one row, probably five or six foot long. I would have to measure it to make sure. It was a roll out back nest box, but I painted the flaps as well so they are not as floppy like they were before since I had it screwed to the wall, i also gave the little baskets that sat inside them away since they looked too flimsy to hold up my big birds, thus me setting it on the floor, but I am sure a craftsman could make a sloped bottom for the nests if you would want to make them roll out nest boxes again.

I think it might be better if you go ahead and give her a different home. I don't want to make you wait for an answer (and then until Sunday for me to even be able to pick her up) when someone can pick her up sooner.

She looks and sounds like a perfect match for my flock (these are a bunch of angry little hens sometimes, haha), but it would be better for her to not have to go through a 15 hour drive just to get to her new home.

Though, if anyone knows where the heck I can buy some muscovy hatching eggs in the Boerne/Lytle/San Antonio, please let me know! Turns out that one of my hens is now broody, woot!

I'll leave it up to y'all - I won't be hurt waiting until Sunday.

Congrats on the broody hen! And indeed that would be a mighty long drive for her. Perhaps it is better. I wish you were closer, but again I do agree with you.

Whelp, just let me know when you want to come and get my little troublesome hen! Haha. I will pm you my address and phone number. Just let me know what day/time you would like to pick her up!

Don't give up so easily! Chicken's form a hierarchy and you have to let thing sort themselves out. You might want to lock her up in a small cage for a few days. Your big birds are submissive. She'll stop once she is convinced they understand that she is the queen. There are lots of articles somewhere on introducing hens into a flock. It is never pretty. That's normal. If she were being like this with something like a Polish or Silkie who had a vaulted skull, or were substantially smaller and couldn't move away like a Silkie, I would definitely not leave them together for a second, but I don't think any of your new birds have a vaulted skull or can't run away.

Aquaponics is a nice idea but I have shied away from it. With so many areas of the country, particularly TX, being in a drought most of the time, I decided that my time would be better spent working on perfecting gardening techniques that don't require so much water.

I'm with you on that. Everything I plant is native except for the veggie garden. I have a great book on planting in dry areas, RAINWATER HARVESTING FOR DRYLANDS AND BEYOND. I bought my first two rain barrels. I know, only two, but it is two more than I had last week.

I am worried though since the new birds will not come down off the roosts at all if she is out. They will sit up there day and night and not come down for food or water. I had to lift food and water up to them for them to even eat or drink and they gobbled it down. She is honestly being quite vicious. I have added birds to my flock before previously with my larger flock and didn't have as much of a problem like I am having with her. She is pulling tons of their feathers and leaving really nasty bites on the jersey giants comb. Also if they are caught on the ground by here they will run to the corner and try to bury themselves there and she is relentless in pecking at them.
