I saw soooo many adds from them wen I was looking for chicks.
I didn't end up getting them from there, but I liked that you made an appointment, and that there was no minimum order.
Might be worth a call. It's a teeny bit of a drive, but closer than IDEAL
I wish I could get chickens. I'd love to car pool there with someone.

I may not have chickens but I do have fresh eggs from a backyard flock. :)

I have a question...I cracked one of these and there was a red spot (not a dot) in the white part of the egg. This is from a flock without a rooster so the eggs are not fertilized. Is this ok to use? I tried to remove the stuff but couldn't get it out so I tossed out the egg.

I sometimes get those and I don't really notice once I cook it up. I certainly think it's safe to eat, however, some people get a little grossed out by it. I would just ignore it and cook up your eggs. :D

Blood and meat spots in eggs are no problem. Just bits of stray blood/tissue in the making of the egg. Only time I won't use them is if I am whipping egg whites for something.

I tried this as well and she started jumping into the top of the cage, I am afraid she will break her neck she is hitting the bars so hard.... I don't mean to sound like I am making excuses, this is just what is going on. Also even if I have them all out in my back yard she will still go and pin them down. She just needs birds that are more dominant like her. My previous RIR kept her in place pretty well, and my amerucana would stick up for herself when she would get tired of being bullied.

You don't sound like that at all. Sometimes, some animals just don't work with the group. You are doing the right thing for yourself, your group and her but placing her somewhere were everyone can be more relaxed and happy. It is hard but all part of being a good animal steward

Ugh...I really wanted to hatch muscovy eggs. Now I have to just buy the darn ducks as adults. I don't know anyone who breeds them locally and I don't think the seller in Lytle has them. Muscovy ducks are supposed to be really good meat birds (they aren't fatty like pekin ducks) and they are really good foragers. I need them!
Hey this guy is in Austin, not to far from where you are going on Sunday http://austin.craigslist.org/grd/4253393699.html he may have hatching eggs, but if not $22 is not to bad for an adult.

If you are not looking to necessarily breed ducks but just want to raise some to butcher, you should look into ordering some White Appleyards from Holderread's. Apparently Silver Appleyards throw out some pure white ducklings every so often, naturally. I ordered some last spring that I need to butcher soon. They are pure white (so easy pickings), very large, calm but not fatty like Pekins. Lots of people raise Silver Appleyards for meat ducks, and these are genetically the same they are just white.

Ducks rule, chickens drool!
How funny, if I ever get Ducks these are the guys I want. Have had my eye on them for a year now

. I just wish I had a pond. I know you don't HAVE to have one, but cleaning out a water source seems hard during the summer.
