Texas

I'd been using heat lamp and it works ok so far, cheap. I may need to try this sometimes when I build a small coop to bring these babies back to my home.

How much does 1 cost, do you know Lisa ... maybe $1000 huh

New here, at least as far as posting. Been lurking about five months now getting edjumicated in keeping chickens.

Have learned a lot. First thing I did was find the search function and have read thousands of threads gathering info.

Thanks for all the help and future help as well!!!

Welcome from Rosenberg! Ask any questions. Someone will answer or steer you in the right direction. Have you any chickens or are you in the 'planning' stage?

Lisa :)

Thanks Lisa!! I am in the planning stage. Currently live in Missouri City and will be moving to my property in a few months. I will have my open air coop built in the next month and also my brooder.

As of now it will be a garden coop. 12X25 coop/run and will use electric poultry net for idle garden.

Are you moving to Belott? I had to look that one up. I am thinking you will be around some pretty cool people when you move. Have you decided on any certain breeds?

Lisa :)

Yes Lisa we will be moving there!! We have had the property for several years now. I have a 30X50 metal bldg with 25X50 awnings on two sides. I could live in it as is but the wife wants a little more. Lol.

I won't get any chickens till I am there permanent. I have not decided on breeds yet.

Thanks for the welcome!! And I am open for any suggestions on breeds.

Oh! By the way, I have to brag a bit. My "girls" are getting so big! They're not even 2 weeks and, although they're going through a bit of an ugly duckling stage, I am just in awe of them. :love Sounds silly, but they're getting so big and curious. They run to the side of the brooder when I get home, towards me :weee
Pearl, one of my Easter Eggers, has mastered jumping up on the side :/  So I'm ordering them a bigger space. I'm just so excited, they're growing so well and feathering out beautifully.
Hubby is convinced my single Barred Rock, Freya, is a roo. I told him it's waaaay too early. I hope she's not, she's one of my sweeter chicks.

If Freya is the one with the red comb you may want to change her name to Fred. LOL!

I made this this morning. Have not tried it yet, but it sure smells good! I changed up the recipe a bit and used cinnamon applesauce in place of the butter and added a 1/2 tsp cinnamon to the batter. Can't wait to try it. Letting it cool more first. :) Apple Cinnamon Bread 1/3 cup brown sugar (not packed) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2/3 cup white sugar 1/2 cup butter, softened 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup milk 1 apple, peeled and chopped Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set aside. Beat white sugar and butter together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, until incorporated; add vanilla extract. Combine flour and baking powder together in another bowl; stir into creamed butter mixture. Mix milk into batter until smooth. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Next add half the apples and half the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apple mixture into batter. Pour the remaining batter over apple layer; top with remaining apples and add more brown sugar/cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apples into batter; swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a finger or spoon. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes.
