G' morning from Pflugerville, One of my hen started setting 2 days ago. So mark your calendar for Feb 23-26. Let's see how many babies we can figure out from our math this time. Best of luck

Good afternoon all from Northeast Texas it's 28 degrees here wishing it would warm up. I need to get my coop finished cause I have 36 chicks coming in at the end of April.

Welcome from Rosenberg, TX! How eggsciting for you! What kind are you getting? Are you sure you are getting enough? We are real good at enticing people to get more!

Lisa :)

I love my tiny space heater!

I know I have no room to complain when up north the temps are in the 20s/30s, but I'm so not accustomed to this cold weather. It's only 58 degrees here and I'm holed up in my toasty room, dreading the clock. At 2:30, I have to go pick up my cat from the clinic (she's getting fixed) and it'll be cold and the cat will be drugged and I'll be desperately wishing that my coat was thicker. Oh, and I'll be hungry, but I won't be able to buy food because I have to foot the bill for the surgery.

I'm trying to think of the reason why I took this cat in when my sister brought her home. Oh yeah, I'm not good at saying "no". And scrawny, malnourished "feral" kittens are always the first to be put down at the shelter.

Gonna set up a cozy spot for Feral Kitty. She's gonna need it and I want to make sure she can relax inside the house while she heals....I think I'm also going to put the chicks where she can't reach, haha!

The sky was particularly cloudy this weekend, so I took the time to take a couple photos. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to upload them until now. It's just a small update on the flock! This is George. He was pecked in the eye several times by one of my meaner NN hens when he was still young. He can't see anything out of his left eye, so it makes him incredibly easy to catch if I sneak up on him. He has a magnificent "eye" for seeing birds of prey, though, so he watches out for the flock. This is Nameless (I literally have no name for him). He's just so darn pretty and he had a hard start to life. When he was several weeks old, he got stuck between a wall and a gate panel. The other birds, locked up and bored, pecked him until the entire back of his head was bloody. His feathers haven't quite grown back, but he's still so fuzzy and cute. He's definitely a good protector nowadays and he makes sure to show the hens where to find the tastiest morsels that I toss out, haha! These are the new muscovies! I've never seen a domesticated duck fly before but Indie, the large white female, has been showing me on a daily basis that she's got wings, haha! It's nice to see that these guys are getting along really well with the rest of the ducks/chickens. The young frizzles love them and like to sleep next to them at night. :D I have a question. What color do you think Nameless the EE is? I can't figure it out and it's always been something I've really liked about him. Even back when I thought he was a hen, he had beautiful feathers and I thought I had hit the jackpot, haha! I really want to breed him with one of my young game/RIR pullets and see what I get. Plus, I wonder what color eggs the offspring would lay? Here's a pic of his back.
Oh my goodness they are beautiful!

Oh my goodness they are beautiful!

Thank you! I can't take credit for the muscovies because Mi Ranchito raised them before me, haha! We got lucky with those roosters, though. Despite their not-so-great beginnings, they are beautiful birds and will hopefully help produce some lovely chicks.

Oh, and some post-op news on Feral Kitty!

She's home safe and sound now, but she's completely high on the pain meds they gave her. They are like kitty-ecstasy and she has been trying to roll around on the floor with my hand, haha! You can see that the skin of her ears and face are flushed and it's a bit adorable. I'm hoping she'll get sleepy soon. I love her, but I need my hands and she keeps trying to eat them.

Greetings fellow Texans. I live close to Stephenville, west of Ft Worth. Temp says 21 right now and is supposed to get down to around 15 tonight. I'm just chillin with my 10 chicks inside (RIR & BR's). I'll probably get more next month lol. Anyways, hope everyone is staying warm!

Welcome from katy, west of Houston! Not too bad now, but the temp should drop as we head into the night. Enjoy those chicks!

Welcome from College Station. :woot

About 30 here right now.

Many of my ancestors lived in the Erath County area at one time. Of course most of the one's that I'm familiar with are in the cemetaries, but I'm bound to have some random relatives still out there. LOL!
