Texas

Let's hope. I need to "requisition" some taller ladders from work as well. I've got all the rafters pre-cut so it should go together pretty easy if I can manage to lift them up that high by myself with the mangled arm. They are 3 weeks and 1 day old as of today so I still have 2 or 3 weeks until it becomes urgent.

Sounds like it is time to call some buddies (or any burly, male type persons). Trust me you want help. Your wife will appreciate it. Probably will fix you all food. That's what I would do because I do not like holding heavy objects over my head for what is suppose to take "5 minutes" and is more like an hour. :) Just a suggestion.

Ms Jellybean, you could move to the Richmond/Rosenberg area. :)

Lisa :)
:) I'm not moving anywhere for some time. I moved twice the summer of 2012 - once when I sold my house and then 10 weeks later when I bought my house. Stayed with my sister for the 10 weeks. Then last July I helped my best friend move. I spent 30 hours in one week helping him pack and move. Nope, no moves for this girl for a long time!

They don't sell the plans for that metro coop? That is what you are shooting for, right? Well how big do you want it? Lumber is your biggest cost I would think. But I would think you would need plans if only a simple drawing.
No plans for sale. I do have the brochure to go by so I could draw it out to be any size. I want it about 6x12 feet. It's basically a rectangle with the coop at the one end taking up about 1/3 of it. I'm trying to get free lumber from my neighbour who does remodeling.

What part of north Texas do you live. I am in Tyler Texas myself
I'm in McKinney. I want to go to Tyler sometime to see the rose gardens.

I would show the brochure to the neighbor, tell him your size and any other modifications and see what his cost estimate is. He would know the structural framing needed, etc. Good start. He might even know someone interested in building it for you. Or cutting the wood. Or drawing out plans. People really do like using their skills.

I just had to turn down an offer to trade my mutt roosters and one hen for 3 meat rabbits. I just couldn't do it. The dreamer in me kept thinking about how badly I wanted meat rabbits.

The Logical-Laura told Dreamer-Laura to shut up and be realistic. I would be trading excess roosters (an expense that I've dealt with) for rabbits (a new expense that I don't want to deal with right now). So I realize now what I must do. I'm gonna have to pull out the sharp knives and process them myself. If I don't want to do that, maybe I can find someone who would do it for me (heck, they can keep half the meat!).

This was too stressful. I didn't like being backed into a corner by some stranger all because he wanted a hen. I'm just gonna have to learn to tell people to back off.

Good morning everyone!! It's pea soup here in Houston, again!! But it's a balmy 65 so I'll take the fog over cold any day. Y'all have a good one and be safe. Laura, you be careful with these transactions and dealing with strangers!

I think our local TSC is finally going to have chicks today! With 2 brooders already and 51 chicks between the 2 of them, in theory I should be able to throw in 6 more without my husband noticing right?

or 7, or 8...9...

+1 on both parts. :)

I went to a local farm store today and looked at the coop in a box they have for sale. I did not buy it. Uh oh! This is not good. I did get my taxes done and filed today. I am getting a refund. Not as big as I hoped for though..... Still, there is a possibility that I can get a coop built. :)
At least you're being smart about it :)

Those are lovely! I love the egg with the wintery landscape on the 2nd pic!
That's my favorite out of those, too.

Yea! I see a coop in your future. Maybe you can score a watermelon box as a brooder and start your flock.

No, coop before chicks. Although having chickens with no where to put them is a great motivator.
It is! That's how I'm doin' it!

I can't buy plans for the coop I want and I don't have a clue to figure out the cost. I'm good at many things, this is not one of them. :/ I can't find people to help me out with things around here either. I need to move out to the country where people are more helpful....
I'm not super handy..and I don't have a lot (if any) tools, but I'm happy to help however I can!

My poor chicks are in that ugly adolescent stage where they still have some chick fuzz and they have some adult feathers. Kinda like when your kids reach that pre-teen stage where their front teeth, ears, and nose are too big for their face.....atleast the chicks wont complain about zits!

Unfortunately, this stage seems to last awhile...at least for my Easter Eggers...poor things lol. My Buffs and Barred Rock are so soft and at least pretty uniform.
My EEs look like..a mess. lol. The little roo will be handsome, already getting in his red and black/green feathers.
My EE pullets went from yellow/red chipmunk to dark brown/gray and white. Its crazy to watch them change. I like the mystery of them.
