Update: I am down to one hen, Lena. DH is going to put Droopy down when he gets home. She wasn't eating today, just sitting. I picked her up (which is unusual) and had her on my lap. Her head was under my jacket for a bit. I noticed little flecks of blood on my coat. I put her down and then I noticed my shirt was red. When I checked her over she looked fine...no feathers missing or anything.

I almost lost all my new 2-week old Ameraucana chicks tonight. They were peeping a lot and I didn't go to check, just thinking they were growing up and getting noisier. When I went in, they had all gathered at one end of the brooder . The whole pile of them ended up in the water and were soaked. I usually have a quail-sized waterer but used a bigger one this afternoon. The chicks didn't have the sense to go under the brooder so were chilled to the bone. Two are still chilled, but I blow dryed them and they are huddled under the the heat. I'll keep checking on them.

Our babies are getting all feathery and BIG! As you can see, I have some photogenic ones. As of today, we have only lost one Dom. These critters are so much fun.

Probably shoulda cleaned the brooding pen before pics rather than after. Sorry. On another note, my incubator is almost ready. Pics when I git 'r' done. Redundant heating systems, digital humidity control, stainless steel rack, LED lights, anything else I need y'all?

That happened to mine once and I was left with the worst feeling of guilt bubbling in my stomach. However, even the best laid plans can be for naught. All we can do is learn from our mistakes and deal with the consequences. It's great that you noticed quickly enough to get them heated up, even if a couple are a little worse for wear, still.

I hope your chickies turn out alright! I lost one of my Ameraucanas today and while I'm still a little upset, I managed to make the brooder safer for the chicks and hopefully no more chicks will be hurt.

I am so glad you were able to warm them up. Have you heard of putting marbles in the water bowl? I did that when my chicks hatched and they never got wet. Keep us posted on how they are doing.

Wow! So glad you went to check on them. I hope the last two are ok.
