OK, thanks for the info.

Oh no!!!

Glad you are finding them. :) I hope the last one shows up soon. Need some help looking? I can come over...

I'll look into it. Thanks!

I found a lady in Van Altsyne today that has silkies and cochins and Japanese somethings. Her silkies are blue and splash colors. I put in an 'order' for 3 splash silkies to be picked up in April. I am so excited!! I wish I could get the heat plate sooner.

Japanese? They are so gorgeous! The roosters' tails stand up very high and almost touch their heads. Congratulations on your new birds!

Thank you! Im so relieved! And lucky. I did not expect them all to be found safe and sound..
They usually roost but they're all cuddled in a pile right now.

Do they have heat? I would make sure they had extra heat tonight. Don't worry about food--they need heat and liquid. If they've been injured, they typically go a bit shocky and their digestive tract shuts down. Feeding them only makes everything worse.

While I don't dismiss the emotional/intellectual life of chickens, I am not one to ascribe a lot of human thoughts and feelings to them (that they're huddling together over the shock of their near-death experience). I think they have a different concept of the past and the future than we do. If they are huddled together I would make the assumption they are huddled because they are under some sort of physical distress from injury, cold or exhaustion. Treat them as if they are injured. It might be as simple as they're exhausted from their physically demanding day of running for their lives.

I've got 4 chicks that are almost 2 weeks old. I moved here from South Florida last August and this harsh winter weather has really thrown me for a loop. When I found out that backyard chickens are a possibility (with some rules to follow), I was excited to give it a try since my husband and I are also recent empty-nesters and with the move away from our family and friends in South Florida, we needed something to occupy our time (chicken therapy!).
