My husband wasn't doing too well earlier today, couldn't hold anything down but I believe thats because they gave him codeine even though he already told several people he was allergic to it. They took him off morphine, gave him stronger nausea meds & different pain medicine, he sounds much better this evening, his donated kidney is doing fabulous for the recipient :fl

Even people stuff can leach things.  In general you never want to put anything acidic in ceramics.  Glass or stainless steal.  I bought a couple of those glass juicers from Amazon, thanks.

Got home to find that the dog had somehow gotten outside and into the pen..
No chickens were ANYWHERE, except 1 EE he had pinned to the ground...
She checked out ok. I found my too under the shed, my other BO under the back deck.
My husband and I searched for another 30 minutes before he had to go to work..
As he was leaving I accidentally left the door open and caught a glimpse of yellow rush by. My Eloise sprinted to the neighbors bushes then came to me when she heard me.
Im still missing one EE and my BR....
Im so devastated...I cant find them anywhere dont know what to do...I cant stay outside searching because the kids are sick.
My roo leaves tomorrow...
Im down to 3 pullets and my Silkies, who aren't outside yet.
I want to cry..I cant wait to get them into their more secure pen tomorrow...

Gosh girl I'm so sorry!

Ooh I hate it when the staff doesn't listen! Very important to have someone from the family watching you. I am glad he is doing better. When will he get to come home? Give him a hug for me!

Hi there! I'm in the Henderson area (Rusk County) and was wondering if anyone in the area knows of a feed store that carries organic non-gmo chicken feed. Thanks!

Welcome from Rosenberg!

Lisa :)

So what are you all's opinions on chicken tractors in general? I'd like to build an A-frame tractor with a  4'x8' run beneath upper roost/nesting boxes. I'm in an urban setting so all  I really want/need is a few layers to provide eggs for my household and provide compost for small raised bed garden... 3 maybe 5 tops. They would be free ranged for a few hours in the evenings and more so on the weekends but would be kept mostly in the tractor moved at least twice daily. May be able to provide a kennel area for additional run space but all needs to be able to be movable.

My first coop was a tractor. I moved it around everyday. I had 4 3 month old Buff Orpingtons in it. I let them free range in the evening before sunset and watched them until they got back in the coop to roost. They grew tired of the confinement. I rigged them a larger covered run out of welded wire. Hard to describe how I fashioned it, but it was portable and gave them more room until we moved and they were then able to free range. I think chickens are happier with space to forage.

I'm not fond of plastic.  I prefer glass or stainless steel but I can't find chicken "stuff" made with stainless steel.  All kinds of chemicals leach out of plastic especially if it is acidic.  I try for food grade everything, but that isn't always possible.

I'm trying to find a glass hand juicer--you know, one piece of glass with the raised nobby thing to twist the citrus fruit on--for my chicks ff.  I think I need to make a trip to the dreaded Walmart.

I just saw one of those at a junk store in Liberty Hill.

I live between Longview and Henderson. Welcome to BYC and the Texas thread!

You can try this feed, Texas Natural Feed. I don't think it's organic, but it is non GMO and non Soy. Lone Star Farm Supply on Lone Star St. in Henderson carries it. Also Horaney's in Longview carries it. That is what I'm using for my chicks.

This is their site: http://www.texasnaturalfeeds.com/

Lisa, here's my baby that is similiar to yours. She is now pushing 3 weeks and has no tail feathers yet.

Glad to hear the recipient is doing good. I hope your husband heals up quickly without too much pain. Admire his willingness to donate.
