Texas

Look what I found! I am so excited. Decatur isn't that far from me. I found another place in Princeton that has light sussex. I want one of them too.

Sounds like some nice chickens!
henless: They do indeed like most types of music. I think I have spoiled them. I just might have found a way to get them back in the coop at night when they go outside. I'll just play them some tunes. Lol.
This made me think of the Pied Piper! LOL

We were listening to music the other day while working on the grow out pen and our hens, in the pen next to us, loved it! They actually started nodding off while swaying a little to the music, it was unexpected and cute!

I can see them all nodding in perfect rhythm!

@harley1975 ~ The weather is being a pain here too. Just got back from the store and it has already started raining. It's not supposed to rain until this evening!

Fellow Texans, don't forget to set your clocks ahead 1 hour tonight. Daylight savings starts today!

I really adore my little Silkies. They are very friendly. The little hatchery Silkie rooster I have that somehow avoided being slaughtered is really quite funny. When he is excited, he jumps high in the air like a little kangaroo--a good two feet--flapping wildly. He looks like he's on a pogo stick.
Video please!!!

We had a Polish that use to do something similar but it was always behind our backs when he was getting ready to attack...not near as cute as yours!

I am looking for auto sexing hatching eggs in the North Texas/DFW area. Does anyone have any available? I will need them in about a week. I have cream legbars, but am especially looking for Rhodebars.

Thank you!

That's a relief!  Your neighbors need some eggs when you get some.

They wont be laying til June-ish, but I will definitely be sharing, or at least offering to!

Yeah! So glad you found all of your flock!

Im so thankful!! I really didn't think I'd find my last EE..

Do they have heat?  I would make sure they had extra heat tonight.  Don't worry about food--they need heat and liquid.  If they've been injured, they typically go a bit shocky and their digestive tract shuts down.  Feeding them only makes everything worse.

While I don't dismiss the emotional/intellectual life of chickens, I am not one to ascribe a lot of human thoughts and feelings to them (that they're huddling together over the shock of their near-death experience).  I think they have a different concept of the past and the future than we do.  If they are huddled together I would make the assumption they are huddled because they are under some sort of physical distress from injury, cold or exhaustion.  Treat them as if they are injured.  It might be as simple as they're exhausted from their physically demanding day of running for their lives.

Yeah I get that.
I figured they just were tired. They had a lot of excitement.

So glad you found all of them

Thank you! Me too

My husband wasn't doing too well earlier today, couldn't hold anything down but I believe thats because they gave him codeine even though he already told several people he was allergic to it. They took him off morphine, gave him stronger nausea meds & different pain medicine, he sounds much better this evening, his donated kidney is doing fabulous for the recipient :fl

Glad he's doing better! How wonderful!

No roosters.  It's against the city's ordinance.  The breeder said she will take back any roos.  She knows how to sex them so hopefully she is good at it.  I don't have a clue.

We really need the rain though.

It is chilly out there this morning!

It was sprinkling earlier. I was clearing out the area for the run and felt the raindrops. Then the guy called to pushb it back til tomorrow. Bleh.

That's great the breeder will take back the cockerels.  You might want to ask her what she does with them.  If she sells them on Craigslist, you might just want to slaughter them yourself, because that's where they are headed.  Silkies are great little meat birds.

Try to get all your chicks at the same time.  You don't want too much age difference or you will be raising separate broods in separate pens.

This is what I have to do with the "big girls" and the silkies. Its not a hUGE deal but kind of a pain lol

The temp is dropping and the north wind has picked up. Brrrr!!!!! I thought it was supposed to getting nice. :/

I bought 2 windows for my coop. She only had two that weren't too big. I also picked up an antique plate. I am such a sucker for antiques. Somehow I have managed to figure out what a good deal is and what isn't. Thankfully!

These will go on the east and west sides of the coop.

I love this plate. They thought it was from the 1930's. I think that or maybe earlier.

This is the place that has the light sussex. They have silkies too. I'm going to get my silkies from them so I don't have birds from so many locations. I think their birds will be a little higher quality and healthier in the long run.

Brynn, they have chocolate orps. :)

I haven't heard back from the people with the BCM an legbars. I need to source black Australorps now. I can get them at the feed store, but since everyone else is from a breeder I would like the trend to continue.

I will be getting all the birds in April. Is it better to get the silkies a couple weeks before the rest so they can get bigger first?

I want a Welsummer too..... :)

chicken math has started and I don't even have chickens yet!
