I'm so sorry :( They probably don't get enough for me to worry about then. It's only a handful or so once a week between 8 birds. I know most probably do, and I'm ok with that possibility. But I don't think that's this guy's intention, from the way our conversation went. I'm honestly not ready to slaughter anything quite yet. Plus he's only 8 weeks. Seems a little soon. If he has a chance to live life a little longer with a little harem, I'll give him a shot! Eventually, yes, I'll have to do something along those lines. Baby steps :) I will definitely be asking you for advice when I'm ready! Laurie, look at this one!

I really like that one!!

You'll get it figured out! You're like a teenager trying to decide what to wear to prom. Lol

If it were only that easy! ;)

I love this!!

There you go bringing it up again..guess I know what I'm doing with my free time tonight

I'm almost positive I would totally mess up an incubator...but I have Silkies now!

I laughed a lot at this. Mine do that with grapes!

Sorry about your friend :(
Careful riding! It's supposed to get cold again tonight! Not too cold though..

I'm going to switch once I move from chick starter. The D&L off of 380 carries it?
The one you don't like is off Chestnut, right? That guy's always condescending to me :/

Flax seeds make the eggs fishy? I mix some with steel cut oats and soak them for a treat on chilly mornings. Should I lay off that? They're not close to laying yet...

D&L again? I've never heard of a Buckeye...now I'm going to have to look them up lol
Do you ever wonder how those chickens off Lousiana and Bradley are able to free range all day? Right by the road, with that fence? I'd be nervous ALL the time..They obviously do ok though..

Chicken's aren't legal there yet? I was going to rehome my roo to someone there...

I have 2 Silkies, but they're not really integrated yet...and they're the only bantems too...
By the way, I only counted 7 chickens..5 after you sell the extra 2. Our limit is 12 so....TECHNICALLY it's not too many

BCM's lay the dark brown eggs right? Hmmm.....I don't have any dark layers yet...
I'm more concerned with the wind than the temps right now. Not riding today since there is a chance for 25mph winds and I got too much sun yesterday. Tomorrow we will have 40mph gusts! I'll be inside all day.

D&L is the one off Hwy 380, kind of by Sonic. Nice people there. I won't shop the store on Chestnut. I do not like that man. I wonder if he treats men the same way he treats us.

I know I can have 12 but my yard can't handle 12 plus Sasha. I want some grass. Wait I already have some grass, I want a lot of grass! Shall I put you down for a BCM? They are arriving in 3 weeks. You can brood her with your silkies. :)
Buckeyes are the only breed developed in the US by a woman and they give cats a run for their money for their mousing abilities. I want one for more personal reasons though.
I really really really want a dark chocolate egg layer!! Really really
Shall I put you down for the other BCM? A road trip to Dallas will be fun!

Laurie, look at this one!

That is a really pretty wreath! I could get real eggs in all those colours! I've thought about adding an olive egger to my flock. Soon to be flock. Dang it! Chicken math is just too easy! Whay can't it be hard like advanced algebra, geometry or trig?

Well I took today off because I had a dentist appt. my hygienist wasn't working next week during my spring break. I thought I'd have a chance to see my girls-Katrina just got home from Baylor yesterday. As it turns out my oldest decided to take my youngest to the zoo today-that's what happens when all parties involved don't communicate. Lol
After my dentist appt u went home and was outside doing a few animals things when I noticed one of my rabbits was trying to hop but couldn't. He is very old and daily I wake up expecting to see him no longer with us. Well I called the vet but they have no one who works on rabbits there today, but I couldn't imagine letting him go even one more day not being able to hop. And he was continuously chewing on one of his legs.
So through many tears I made the executive decision to take him and have them put him down. Not a hard decision, because he has many issues. I know he is in bunny heaven and is able to hop, hear, and play with all the other bunnies. Throughout this morning I've been texting and calling Katrina to see if she wanted to have lunch. But never an answer. Well after I took the bunny to the vet I went to my OTHER daughters place of employment because I needed a hug. We cried and then I left to go home. Alone! I've got 4 kids!!!
I called Katrina because I surmised that she was sleeping and it was nearly noon and she needed to get out of bed.
We talked and I a
Skied her is she wanted to go eat and she said sure! So I told her to call me back when she was ready.
She called me back a few minutes later not because she was ready but because she was ditching me for a friend she hasn't seen in a while.
Oh well. I'm going to clean the bathroom, sweep and mop and go back to school at 3 to tutor. Then straight to babysit.
I'll kinda be glad when this day is done.

But I'm ok-kids will be kids and I'll always love them!

Besides I've got my chickens and 5 other bunnies!

I'm so sorry! I know how hard that is to do. :( I also can relate on the kids thing. I only have two boys but there are days I would pay someone to take them and others I wouldn't trade them for the world. Cleaning is really good therapy. :)

Please come and support us at the Copperas Cove Texas City Council meeting tonight!

There is a meeting that I and a few others will be speaking at tonight at 6pm and we would love any added show of support. We are trying to get them to allow backyard chickens.

Thanks,

Shane
Can't make it that way tonight but good luck!

My mind is spinning. Need to take a step back here and regroup. :p
Looks like everything is starting to come together and you'll be getting your chicks before you know it! I wanted a dark egg layer also. No one had any Welsummers which was what I was looking for.

You can always skin them. I suspect if the chickens are clean to begin with, the smell from scalding isn't as bad. I've skinned everything I've processed. It's really easy to do.

Here's a BYC group dedicated to people like you and me who want to process are own chickens but have no experience. You'll find it under "Meat Birds.

Processing Day Support Group ~ HELP us through the Emotions PLEASE!

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to go check them out and see how bad it is. I actually don't think the killing aspect will be the problem. It's the physical part, having the energy to complete the whole process, is what I'm really worried about. I have an autoimmune disease and the fatigue it causes is my biggest enemy. I run out of energy long before I get to finish anything.

So sorry you had to go through this! It's never easy putting a beloved pet down.

It's a beautiful day outside. I got some more work done in the coop. Sometimes I don't think I will ever get finished! Letting some paint dry, hoping to put on another coat this afternoon then its wire time!

Are you reading my mind??? I have the same thoughts every time I walk outside and see my half-building. LOL

Yea but cleaning is no fun!!
Now that all 4 of my hens are pretty grown (about 30 weeks give or take) I'm very leery about adding more to a very happy bunch of hens. There is really no picking order that I can see. They hang out together, lay cooperatively in a pretty small coop, and seem to like each other's company.

Not sure if it's wise to upset the apple cart, so to speak.
Someday, I'd like to get another coop and then any new ones I get can just use it instead of trespass in the old hens coop. I don't know! Don't tempt me...my mom lives in Athens, close by Tyler. Ugh. You're very bad.

All is forgiven. Yea I took a day off and I'm still working. Housework that is.
Housework? Oh yeah, that stuff that never seems to get done, and when it is, it comes right back! Lunch break is over, heading out to check if the kilz is dry so I can put on the real paint. Spring break is this week, so my granddaughter is with me all day. I don't seem to get as much done for some reason. Wonder why?
