MsJellybean I am sorry your repair bill is going to be so expensive, but girl you could get a couple of chickens and a small coop to "get your feet wet" and it would not cost too much. Perfect? No but doable.
I mean you are already fermenting feed!
I'm with hensfortherapy on this one. I built a small coop for next to nothing using supplies I brought home in a Mustang. Having just a couple would be great as compared to none. I haven't been on here long, but I can tell how much you want some birds. Chin up. Sorry to hear about your repair bill.

Hopefully it will all work out and you can get your hands on a truck to get your supplies. By any chance can your mother-in-law pull the trailer or let her go with you to "help".

Oh my you just have to know her...... she is very cautious. I mean, extremely cautious. No she wouldn't even attempt to pull a trailer. It's no big deal for me to do it I have pulled a many of trailers and pulled all kinds of things on the trailers, but it's a "guy" thing. LOL Maybe tomorrow will be more productive. Hoping the weather holds!!

It is just too much for me right now. I have other stuff I need to do that requires me paying a bit of money out as well. Needed things like repairing dry rotted siding on my garage and painting the house to cover bare wood from peeling paint. This is the 'last straw'. I'll try again for chickens this fall or next year.
Here is a tip for you. Never buy an old house that has not been properly cared for. You will be buying a money pit.
Yes, I am bummed.

Ok so I think I have come up with the name of my coop, when I do finally get it completed. At least this is the name I am playing around with. My rooster is named
The Colonel so his house maybe called.... The KFC safe house! What do you think? I was trying to come up with what the letters could stand for...... Kimberly's F_______ Chickens
PG wording of course. LOL

Any ideas??

Mo progress:

I have one more roof panel to cut and the rest of the ridge to install and the roof is DONE!

Roost and poop tray. It's coated in the BlackJack Rubber roof patch that the floor is coated in. Should make it good and waterproof. The poop tray will have that PDZ stuff in it to keep smells done and make it easier to clean up. I have one of these on each side of the coop.

Covered the windows in 2 layers of welded wire. I think it should be good enough. Might add a layer of chicken wire over it as well.

How it looks from the door. Floor is covered in rubber coat, but I am still going to do the deep litter method on the floor using pine shavings. I'm also debating hanging my chick brooder above the nesting boxes and making door that swings down for access. Chickens will be moving in ASAP!

Looks Great!

What ended up being wrong with it if you don't mind me asking?(mechanics curiosity is getting the better of me)

Some sensor is bad. Not sure. I kind of forgot everything after I heard the cost. I remember that all too well. I'll post what it is tomorrow. My son wants the part for some reason. Probably the mechanic in him. ;) He really wants to work at the dealership.
