Texas

Hello,
it have been quite a while since I was on BYC. I was real busy but now I am back and have a question for all the Texas gardeners. I am searching for a special native plant for my garden. I googled it already but couldn`t find any place which sell this plants. The name is Agarita (wild currant). It is a shrub with edible Berries. I hope I can find it here in somebodys garden who is willing to sell me seeds, cuttings or a big plant. I attach a picture of the plant too.

I have searched and searched this and I finally found a site that lists people who have certain plants.

This LindaTx8 says she has this plant. I don't know where she is or anything but you can email her.... it lists some contact info.
hope that helps.

I was so busy with work lately. Also, health was not good, got a cold and now suffering with an ear infection. All the sudden, one ear got swollen and clog up, can't hear. Hopefully will be ok in 1 week with all the antibiotic I am taking.

Just got loaded with new pix of Charlie sent from my wife today. Will upload later.

Sorry you are feeling under the weather. :( Hopefully the antibiotics will work quickly! Take a sick day!!

Alas our first little hatch didn't make it. Found it yesterday among the hay. But it's ok I wasn't attached yet. I think it was for the best. It was very weak and had all kinds of problems getting around; curled toes, difficulty balancing, also no interest in food even though momma was showing it what to do. After researching I learned that temperature fluctuations during brooding can cause all kinds of problems and it got very cold a few night near the end. I think the air got too cold under the brooder cage and messed up it's development. Hoping this new one does better and may yet get one more chick from Belle's clutch.

This new one came from a pretty small egg. It was nearly white, not brown like my big eggs. About like a large bantam egg, which it could be. I didn't think my big ole roo could successfully "kiss" my little bantams. Will have to wait and see. Stranger things have happened

Sorry your first baby didn't make it. Can't wait to see a pic of the little bantam. :)
These are not the best photos I could get of the eggs at the Region Marans Meet from two weeks ago. Note: I think I go the people's choice ribbon on the wrong set of eggs, but I like them both. :) I enter a set from each of my breeding lines. The big darker eggs are from the Kostas line and the other set (No. 12 on the middle row in the first photo and the ones with the multi-colored ribbon in the 2nd set of photos) is the Cottage Hill line.
Those eggs look so yummy! They look like solid dark chocolate Easter eggs!

Pretty plant! Wish I had some to plant in my yard.

The wife I have now we meet in Jr high school and went to school for years together and never hooked up. We knew each other for a long time while we was in school. We meet again a little over 17 years ago and we both was getting devoured and we have been together all this time

That is so neat how you and your wife met "again" after all this time! Seems like it was destined to happen!!

What is this grass you speak of? I could through some rocks, cactus, and sticker burrs in the coop. Ah the joys of the Texas Hill Country.

It's that green stuff that usually covers the dirt in your yard. It's really abundant here in East Texas!

I had to mow my yard this week. The grass/early weeds were getting high! By the way, I love to mow! LOLOL

We have some rain, lots of thunder and it has gotten really dark. I did finish putting the kilz on the interior exterior side of the coop. Make sense? lol I painted the outside wall on Tuesday, so it's nice and dry.

I did a semi cleaning of the brooder today. Pulled out some of the dirtier shavings and added some new. Threw them in some leaves, and they were having a high oh time digging through them.

Here is the newest hatch from yesterday. This one is fine. Normal feet and is already following Belle's instructions on how to peck chick feed. Also introduced it to water. Had to put a big handful of my polished stones in the bowl.

It has two tiny black dots on it's head and a small black spot on the left wing.

THAT is so sweet!!

I've got chicks on the way!

We were going to just get adults, but due to availability, cost, bonding, etc., we decided to order chicks.

All will be bantam sized. Silkies (for me) and then for the rest of the family who wants eggs - Easter Egger Bantams, Dominique Bantams, and Buff Orpington Bantams.

We ordered 25 planning on losing some due to natural causes and having some roos. In the end, we would like to end up with about 8-9 hens that are healthy and have good temperament. I think with them being bantam sized, we could fit a few more in our 4' x 8' coop (very large run), but 15 or so would be max and that would be more of a temporary situation. I know we will have more than that as they grow as I know we will have to wait a while to sex the silkies.

However, my dad said that knowing our luck, they'd throw in a few extra and almost all would end up being hens, and they would all live. (Although some might consider that lucky, when you aren't wanting that, it isn't lucky.) So, he said we should probably just go ahead and plan on adding a second coop as I won't be able to follow through with getting rid of the extras! LOL, I'm not sure I want to be taking care of that many chickens that are all the same age!

I want to keep them inside the first week so that I can monitor them frequently. We have some large boxes that would probably work. After that, into the garage. My dad suggested using a water trough in there, but I have to see how big it is. The temperature would probably control how long they would need to be in the smaller trough before they could be put out into the coop. You all know Texas weather... I came up with plans for a brooder to build that was either a 4'x6' or a 3'x6', but that would take time and the cost of materials. The trough would be free, but unless it is one of the large ones, I'm not convinced it would be big enough, even for bantam chicks, for all that long..

Last night, with fever, I slept for 12 hrs. In my dream, God came and told me that Baylor ran over Wisconsin in their match tonight. After waking up, I was not sure he said .. ran over.. or got ran over... sorry I cannot hear well lately. Good luck tonight Hens.
I nearly chocked laughing do hard. Let's hope it's 'ran over'. I've got a teacher friend from Wisconsin. I'm hoping Baylor will show him whose boss!!

Like you said, my df and I have known each other a long time. We have a mutual best friend but haven't seen much of each other over the last four years due to seperate careers on separate sides of the country.
When he deployed last year i sent him care packages and we got back in touch. I never deployed myself, but Im glad our mutual friend told me that my DF had. Long story short, we're now buying a all farm in east Texas and starting a family. Learning each other all over again is fun and exciting but my love for him all these years never changed. Little did I know he felt the same way. Fate has a funny way of bringing people together. In the last twelve years we've always casually bumped into each other.... But something sparked while we exchanged letters during his deployment and here we go!

HUNG!!  CAN YOU HEAR ME???  I am sorry you aren't feeling well.  There has been a lot of illnesses going around.

Can't wait to see pictures of Charlie and your wife!

I know you won't miss work, but please get some rest My Friend!

Lisa :)

P.S.  For those of you who are new to this site, I am not being insensitive.  I have a severe hearing loss and don't mind being teased.

Besides y'all are besties!! BFF and all that!
