Is a towel bar really big enough for a roost?

I love the inside pictures that looks like a fun project with the kiddo's

and Do wicker baskets hold up? that looks Way prettier than the inside of mine.

I will have to do painting with my Grand baby Wednesday and Thursday! I will hopefully have some art for the Ladies by Friday!

I do want to get a rooster temperature gauge for in there so that will just add a little pizzaz.

Neighbors Rooster made a visit today he is super sweet and let me pick him up for an inspection if he is hanging out I don't wanna deal with mites again! I think he is free range but he is sleeping over tonight on the top of my Chicken run. Not sure what to do the Ladies admire him as he is a full size rooster and they have only seen the 2 Bantam Roosters I have as their warning bell. The boys try to fertilize and they try Hard!
but it is kind of like watching a little kid ride bare back on a pony.

I was going to let them range around the yard today but I fear that my Bantams may not hold their ground with a full size rooster this is the *Guest* rooster

I am not sure what to do about this guy.

Critters are getting big! Opinions on my current setup? Be honest.Four hundred square feet total. About to have three hundred inside the wall. Automatic feeder and watering system. Roof braces are going in the run soon. Everything but the wire was recycled.

Are you saying you have 700 sq. ft. of Chicken coop / Run?
Please don't tell my Chickens.

I would guess you would have room for around 40 Chickens with a 400 sq ft run @ 10 sq ft per Chicken.
I am not sure if that total goes up with the coop space as it is not usually used for scratching and wondering about doing important chicken stuff. Weather you are doing full size or Bantam will make a difference But I counted 10 and they will absolutely love the room.
No worries the people here will help and encourage you as you fill it up.

It looks safe and like you have taken time to make sure they are entertained
I think it looks Great!

It has been a long time, it feels like months. I feel like I have been rode hard and put away wet for sure. I am not sure if I even posted that my mother passed on the 13 in her sleep. She was 97 years old, born with a heart defect, danced her way to a strong heart.

I have been at the ER about 8 times for uncontrolled nose bleeds. If you wish to see pics, I posted 3 in Family Album in my profile. Any thing that raises blood pressure, such as cleaning my refrigerator, or just getting up will start it going.

The day after my mother died I lost my billfold, with all ID, medical card and passport card. Fallowed by my IPad stolen out of my pick up. I realized I forgot it when I got to the store door. It takes longer to get to a store because my dog (service dog) is to pee before going inside anyplace. He just will not pee without checking out the right spot. By the time I got back it was gone.

-----------------------------

Other then that my girls have been neglected. Feed and water only. I am hireling some help to put things right here, they deserve not to wait for me to get well. Next I have found a camper, should be getting it in a mid April. I may have my house rented. And I have started my design on a truck bed coop plus someone that is going to help me build it. I am unwilling to wait until my nose is no longer sending me to the ER. IT IS REALLY A BUMMER.

I have joined KOA & GOOD NEIGHBOR SAM, goal is shake down run for 2 weeks. Then rent out and go on the road. Just Ernie my dog, Lucy (RIR), Lisa (Partridge Barred Rock), Rosa (EE), and 2 checks (1 half leg bar & 1 Blue and rooster Lemon Cuckoo Marans) and I will be off for a 2 yr adventure.

That is a hard loss.

On the other hand it sounds very much like you have been living some kind of adventure already

Nice set up! Only changes I would make is to upgrade the wire. The chicken wire can be easily shredded by most predators, dog, coon etc.The welded wire gives easy access to snakes and coons. A coon can and will reach their little hands through and pull your chickens out piece by piece.

Chicken wire is really made to keep the chickens out of stuff, garden, flower beds what have you. It's not strong enough to keep anything away from your chickens. I would have put up chicken wire if I hadn't been reading on BYC.

Sorry about your Mom. Sounds like she lived a very active and full life.

Wow! Your going to take your chickens with you in the RV? Sounds like a great adventure!!!

Yesterday was a beautiful day. I finished painting the outside of my coop. I went with barn red. It was cheap, already mixed and the mixer was broke when I bought it, LOL. I'll take pics today, was too pooped yesterday.

I let my chicks out again yesterday. They just love being out in the coop. They also got worms for the first time. Left overs from my DH, daughter and granddaughter fishing in the pond yesterday (I was painting). It was a hoot watching them play keep away. They had like 20 worms in the pan, and everyone wanted to chase one chick with one worm.

Silly chicks!

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother! You have had a time of it!

My husband, growing up use to have nose bleeds. His doctor told him to eat more hamburger meat. Our son had the same problem, so we tried feeding him hamburger meat. It seemed to help.

Please keep us posted on your trip. You will need to stop in at the Texas BYC Diner and tell us about your adventures.

You would think that since they had the same markings/coloring as chicks, they would look similar as they grew up. Yours are very pretty and getting so big now!
The chick in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th would NOT cooperate. He/She has some beautiful feathering on the back of his neck which is screaming ROOSTER, but????? Of course, the guy at the feed store told me they were all pullets.

Lisa :)

Since she has a lot of blue, perhaps she may be a he? Guess we'll have to wait and see how "it" turns out. I always wanted a blue chicken. Never thought it would be a brown EE chick! LOL

eta: I guess I was tired last night when I posted this. Just because "she" is blue, does not mean she is a he. It just means that since she has the blue gene, all the areas that are blue would have been black without the gene.

Yours look blue as chicks. They are cute!
I have a regular swivel latch on the outside, with one of those clippy things to lock it. On the inside, I just have an old timey screen door latch. To keep the door shut while I'm inside so the chicks don't get out.

Yep!

I never would have thought the last hen was a blue. Mine has a lot so far. I hope she stays a "she".

That's a great idea! Keep the critters away and still have plenty of room to get round everything.

Welcome to BYC! You do have pretty chickens!

They look almost like twins!!!!
Nice run! You have room for loads more chickens!

Long day, got some painting done and even found time to clean my house. Hope everyone has a great night.
Yep, once again, ya'll make perfect since! It's on the list.
thumbsup.gif

Oh BYC, the consensus is 10sqft per bird which I think is a little on the conservative side. The one I just built is about 240 sqft so I guess I need to add 6 more chickens!!!
big_smile.png
Ok that's what I needed to know.... so I am looking at......400 sq I think in my run so I guess that should be good for 23 birds..... I just looks small. Made when we get it all wired up and fixed it will look bigger. Kind of like a house slab before any walls go up.
highfive.gif

Hmmm.... Seems we are a little late to the party on the chicken show idea. I've never seen on of the 'many' they refer to. I'm not a big TV watcher though.

Good thing we have a back up plan with the diner. :p

Edit: the article actually has pretty good info in it. I was impressed since a lot get it wrong.
I have opened it up and plan on reading it over breakfast! Thanks again for you help with the latch!

I can see why the girls were so impressed. Poor little guys... He's given them a complex!

I am so sorry for you lose. We lost my Father in Law 2 years ago and I still have a hard time some days. I hope your trip goes well.

Thanks for sharing the link! I was just talking to my husband the other day about making powdered eggs to use for camping. I hadn't gotten around to looking it up yet but you saved me the trouble!

Powdered eggs?? Ok I opened that one too to read a little later. The things we learn on BYC!
