For the chicken runs we put grommets into the shade cloth and use zip ties and sometimes carabiners or rope to attach it to the run. It goes on the top and then down the sides as well. I leave a 2 ft tall space at the bottom of the side panels though, because the shade cloth can block the wind too much and they need to have what little wind there is in summer. Had originally tried to run the panels all the way to the ground, but without the air flow at the bottom, the heat was getting trapped in the runs and then the chickens also couldn't see out of the runs with it hanging all the way to the ground.

This is my first year to use them all over the coops also, thanks for that tip, did not even think about it. One of my coops is fine but the other has it all the way to the ground, will go roll it up.

Both. Although this will be the first year to use shade cloth on a wide scale for pretty much all the garden plants instead of just trying it on a few.

We have hoops that cover the garden beds. Have the snap clamps for putting covers on the hoops but can also use zip ties to stick the shade cloth onto the hoops through the mesh.

Have also just zip tied the shade cloth onto t-posts and wooden garden trellis posts for a quick fix.

My thinking was a sunscreen type material would still let wind flow, which is why we were going to use it instead of just a regular tarp. I was reading reviews on the 10x10 dog kennels that we are using and someone suggested a pop-up type canopy, one that would be used for sporting events/camping. They secured the legs to the corners. I'm not sure the dimensions of the one we already have but I might give it a try.

I am not sure that this particular story is true, as I said, there are 3 or 4 different stories as to how it got its name.

One of the old cops I used to work with called the area of town where he lived "cut-n-shoot" because it had deteriorated so much.

Yes it is!! My Mother-In-Law lived in Happy, TX. It is located about 30 miles south of Amarillo.

That and I think we have every other famous city in the world here, Paris, London, etc.

Don't forget Palestine!! Pronounced: Palasteen.

The shade cloth will allow more heat to escape than a tarp will, but it can still trap in heat if the shade cloth is on both the top and the sides all the way down to the ground. Especially if there is no other shade anywhere - like in our pasture. The shade cloth has held up better than tarps have for us. We put tarps over the tops of the runs for winter to keep more rain off of the chickens, but we have to replace them every year. We've had the same shade cloth on for several years now and it has not deteriorated or had the wind rip the cloth out from the grommets like the tarps have done.

I like the shade cloth idea too. I have a lattice work covering the small run but now with more chickens I need to enlarge that area. Shad cloth would the be cheapest and easiest way to go.

bnjrob - do you cut holes in the cloth to keep it from whipping in the wind? If you said it earlier I missed it.

How cute!!!! I know that feeling I went a bit overboard last year, it became a nightmare, I was just not set up properly. Now I am down to just one breed, I have to keep reminding myself about last year to keep me from getting any others, LOL!!!

Cut-N-Shoot is the name of the town I live in. It is about 6 miles east of Conroe, Tx and about 40 miles north of Houston. There are about 3 or 4 different stories on how it got its name. The 1 I believe goes like this.

There were 2 churches, very close to each other, that had a disagreement about property lines and it just escalated to all out war. This was around the end of the Civil War.
