Ok Question what are you using to cut your hardware cloth. After putting up the wire in the coop and cutting it with hand cutters...... I want more POWER. LOL Also what are you going to use to nail it up? This hand staple gun I have sucks and my DH staple gun is too powerful. It's a carpenters gun for construction not wire

I am just using regular old wire nippers. Tedious it is but is the easiest to control. I am using 1-5/8 zinc coated deck screws with 1-1/4 zinc fender washers. Staples alone can be pulled out by a raccoon. I may use poultry staples but not along the edges of the hardware cloth. Using screws and washers every 6-8 inches. I am trying to do this right as I don't want to have to do it again.

I have even allowed for "chicken math"!!!

Well I put chicken wire up in the coop, up in the high places like over the cattle panels that were already up. Over the top, I use the stapler on the ceiling joist but we sandwiched the edges between to pieces of wood to secure it better. I guess it would be a good idea to go back with the screws with washers. I guess that will work with the chicken wire also. Makes good since to use it with the hardware cloth. You are right the nippers is very tedious work and hard on the hand. LOL

I use wire cutters too. I also use J clips...lots of them...to attach the hardware cloth to itself and to a cattle panel (at the bottom of the hoop coop we made). The whole thing sits inside of my chicken yard, but so far so good....except for that little rattlesnake I found next to the hoop coop last week.
I never thought about J clips, that's a good idea. I used tie straps in the coop where I needed to put the wire together and attach to the cattle guard.

Your chicks look like they love their new digs!

I use tin snips to cut my cloth. DH used wire cutters. They wc were easier to open/close for me, but I had to squeeze too hard to get them to cut. So I went with the tin snips. Don't use staples to put up the cloth. Use screws and washers to put it up. Holds it better, easier to use and you can take them out to tighten up the cloth.

Clicks on this pic for a close up. You can see I used screws/washers to put the cloth up for my brooder. I did the same with the whole coop.

When you go to post a reply, at the top of the post section where the smilies are, you see a downward arrow with the word "more" by it. Click on it and it will open up a whole new world of posting options. Posting in color is a pain. Every time you do something different, you have to go back and put in the color again.

More is always better!

The rain is over for us, for now. The rain gage says we got 1 inch of rain. Sure looks like a lot more with all the water that is still standing.

I just put my babies to bed. I figured when it started getting dark, they would go up the ramp into the brooder. But no, they hang out in the run until I go and tell them " c'mon babies, time to go to bed". Then they come a runnin right up the ramp. Silly things. Guess they will learn when they get big enough. :)
The close up pic is great. I see just what y'all are talking about. That is perfect.
As far as the color, I can't make it stay down long enough to click on a color or a size. I have always seen it there but I can't get it to work.

My DH said you may be able to use a skilsaw with a metal cutting blade, as long as you wear gloves and something to protect your face.

We used the skill saw to cut the tin we put up in the coop and that crap flies. You can't do it with out long sleeves, gloves and glasses..

I bought a Skil Multi-Cutter. I wish I had a picture of it. It cuts the hardware cloth great. I build coops and rabbit hutches as a side business and got tired of cutting with snips, got and ad inthe mail from LOwes that said it would cut hardware cloth so decided to try it, and am very happy I did. Tell you what, I will go to my shop now and get a pic and post it as soon as I get back.
I will check that out. Sounds like what I am looking for! Hey every new project should call for a new tool!! That's how I hook my DH in to all these projects! LOL

Picture time! Here are some updated pics of my Cubalays. The hens are just over a year the boys are about 9 months. The two boys were raised together and got along great until I introduced the girls. Now I have to keep them in different pens. When free ranging the #2 boy hangs out near the dogs and the #1 boy gets all the girls. These pics were taken today when it was overcast and they still look like spun gold.

Here is #2

Here is #1 with his girl and a cat, he gets everything

Simply Beautiful birds Rachael!! David

Quote: Thank you, I did not breed them but have been blessed to own them. They are such a great breed, none are people aggressive and while they don't tolerate "petting" they are are always at my feet or if I sit down they come sit near me. Just very calm birds, I like that
