Thanks...And let me how much per chick? Thanks.....Donna

welcome to this forum. I have thought about ducks but hear they crap every where and not sure I could provide them with water enough for them to swim in. Do you sell the eggs and the birds?

When I typed that post I meant to say hello to a new person, not to say that I am new to BYC or even this forum. I made the mistake of not copying their post, however.

To answer your question, Harley, ducks do crap everywhere but then I bet your chickens are not using some nifty little chicken toilet! They aren't any worse about it than chickens. I go into their house every morning and use a little kid's garden rake to pick up the poopy bits of bedding and chunk them out, then rake it over and add a bit more. Ducks don't scratch through their bedding, they just walk on it and pack it down.

I don't have a pond or anything, just a couple of plastic kiddy pools for them. They are happy as clams to swim around in those.

Duck eggs are absolutely delicious, and wonderful for baking. They are actually more nutricious than chicken eggs. I do sell the eggs for $4 a dozen. I need to get my duck house and runs set up to separate my two breeds, so I can start breeding and selling birds. I love my ducks!

Hi there LightningTFarm ! We really are neighbors, my wife and I live just south of Garrison.

Then we really are neighbors, because I live on the north side of Appleby! If you ever want any duck eggs just PM me and we will work out a way to meet up. My late uncle and aunt, Stewart and Betty Todd, lived in Garrison for years.

Hello from SE Texas, near Freeport, The chicks will need to be shipped to avoid a weekend or holiday. Ship USPS Priority Mail. Use a container designed for chicks, such as http://poultry2.tripod.com/id3.html and include a container of Gro-Gel Plus (available from Murray McMurray).
The contaier of Gro-Gel needs to be sufficient to support the amount of chickens for the estimated time of shipment. Gro-Gel Plus provides the chicks with the required nutrients and water that they will need and it doesn't really spill....is like jelly.

I hope this helps

Harley1975, was you talking to me when you stated you are going to Houston in a couple of weeks?...Thanks....Dexterlady( Donna)

I was talking to showbarnmom wanting to know where she was to get some of those EE. Was hoping she was close to Houston. I am going down to my oldest daughters the weekend after easter. She lives in Magnolia TX and was going to pick up some of those Frizzle EE but showbarnmom is still to far out of the way to run over to pick them up. I will
Have a car full of people. Maybe if she can ship some chicks I will get her to ship me some. I know they would have to be a day old to make the trip and would have to be over night shipment. Would have to talk with USPS and find out the do's and don't. It should be easy as putting the day old chicks in a bow with holes in it and shipping as close to the bargaining of the week as possible. I know people ship chicks all the time but have never done it myself.

Hello from Deep East Texas! I live just north of Nacogdoches (only a little over a hour from you, Harley!) i don't have any chickens, I have ducks. I can't believe how many hours I spend reading this thread about everybody else's chickens when I don't even have any, but I do enjoy it. I had to go to a conference a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd never catch up!!

I raise Welsh Harlequin and Saxony ducks. Boy, those Saxony eggs are BIG!! I had to order some special egg cartons because their eggs are too big for the ones at Tractor Supply.

Here's a picture of my ducks from this winter, when they were out in the snow. The Saxony boys have grey heads and the girls are a beautiful buff color. The Welsh Harlequin boys have a bottle green head (sort of look like bigger mallards), and the girls are sort of speckled dun colored.

Look on the bright side, I've been on this forum for months and don't have chickens OR ducks... I do have chicken ambitions though! lol One of these days!

Lol, that really isn't a chicken coop. It's my new shop. its 30x60. One half will be shop, other will be mother-in-law suite.

Hung - I wish 2 weekends. I called around today to get a plumbing rough outs installed before the concrete pours and everyone is 2 to 3 weeks out. Grrr...

I don't think it will be finished before my Puerto Vallarta trip May 1-4th.

Harley, Ms Jellybean has left the forum. She was being attacked by certain people through this forum and through her PM, that she bowed out.

What have you done the other 31 years? ;)

Well. Its official. Chicken math at its finest but I'm at my limit until the hamburgs get here in May.

Came home with 12ees and 6 "domineckers" ( Barred rocks ) to replace the eight chicks I lost.

8-6+14...
11-2+18...

Including Lyle and Larry. .. 11+16+18+2=47... only have room for 50 birds. Thankfully there's about four or five teenage cockerals out there I can put in the freezer. There may be some in the GLW.

Boy. Once the Hamburgs get here I'll be back up to 100 or so birds.

Meaning once I get to the waddling stage they'll just be starting to lay and I'll have to trust John to collect the eggs from the pens and not mix the GLW with the layers.
