I went out to buy some Taco Pastor for a group overhere. Now I am so sleepy after lunch.Are there anything crazy happened today????

2-3 weeks ago I turned loose 4 little 3 mo chicks. They grew so fast. But now only 1 is seen in the yard. I have about 20 more that are 2 mos... cannot turn them loose any more.

So sorry you lost three of your littles. I wanted to free range but am afraid to.

What is it w/ people?! Some1 stole my neighbors Shitzu out of their front yard while they were watering the side of the house (is a larger front yard). I have 4 dogs & 2 are EBs & we hide them also. I guess it's bc u r out of city limits, but what about Game Wardens County/State Police?

Some people are just jerks. years ago someone stole my parents AKC Rottweiler from my parents fenced yard. Last year someone tried to steal my husband's Siberian Husky from our fenced yard! My escape proof dog pen is, thank goodness, behind the house, there is 5 foot wooden privacy fence on 1 side, my parents fence at the very back, and the gate area is even with the end of our house with a window overlooking the whole fence line. All my dogs are micro-chipped and I would press charges on anyone taking them, but would rather that didn't happen. So I keep them well hidden in the back yard.

Next year I plan on breeding my male Siberian Phantom to my hubby's female Siberian Dawn. Those puppies are going to be in the house, under lock and key. I will sell the pups if anyone is interested in AKC purebred Siberian Huskies. I think I already posted pics of them, but in case I didn't

What kind of chicks do you raise? I started out wanting 12 red stars for eggs, ordered those and six black stars that are coming May 19. In the meantime I have bought six red sex links and 4 silkie chicks from tractor supply. Planning my second coop now.....

On a different note, my hubby gave me the barn looking building and I did an actual measurement instead of "eyeballing" it. it is 14 X 8. It needs a lot of work to become a coop, first step is cleaning it out. but Yay! This means I can get MORE chickens. Chicken Math will commence as soon as it is finished! Ill try and take pics and post so you guys can give me tips and advice!

Part of the coop is always shaded, that side i have to clean everyday because of flies, suggestions? Sweet PDZ does help a lot but doesn't eliminate the problem. I don't have a run, I prop open the coop door during the day and lock them up at night. If I am sexing my birds correctly I will have about 18 pullets and 2 Roos. So it won't be big enough when they are full grown, back to the drawing board. Maybe I can talk the hubby into letting me have his barn looking storage building and giving the geese the coop as their home. Hmmmmm. How deep do you keep the bedding on the floor? Spot clean everyday?

Yeah henless (with chicks), I just got off the tractor mowing half of my front ten acres and I expected there to be ten pages of posts the way they were carrying on! Ain't been a peep out of em the last two hours!

I guess their tongues went on strike; or else they just resting for a weekend marathon.

Being women I know they ain't run out of nothing to say!!

I think I've missed part of the conversation (how I don't know. It's not like this thread moves very fast!) I think ya'll are talking about strays/drop offs? We have a lot here. In fact, 3 of my 4 dogs are "throw aways". I have taken in a lot of dogs, had them vetted and rehomed. It gets expensive and you never know what a stray might have/carry. I look at it this way, I take care of my dogs. I feed and water, give them a warm/dry place to stay, take them to the vet for shots and emergencies. I don't have the time or money to take care of other people's cast offs. If we notice a stray hanging around, and can't run it off, we take care of it.

I have a 4 yr old granddaughter that stays with me while her mom works. I'm not willing to risk her health/life by trying to care for a stray. Not to mention my own animals that I don't want getting sick/hurt by a stray dog.

Dropping off unwanted pets out in the country is not the "free and happy" life people think they are giving their animals. If they're lucky, the coyotes get them within a couple of days. If not, they either starve to death, get hit by a car or a land owner shoots them and puts them out of their misery. It is misery, wandering around wondering why your "family" ran off and left you.

It's great some of ya'll are willing to take in strays, I have and will on occasion, but they've got to be something really special to risk my family and animals for.

Here is a my last rescue. I've had him over a year now. The only reason he is here is because DH never could get a bead on him before I took pitty on him and took him it. He's one of the best dogs ever. He catches, rats, rabbits, moles and my dogs have killed 2 coons within the past 3 months.



He's a Jack-Rat, Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix. I'm sure he will be an A-1 chicken killer too! But I'm working on him!
