No, you are actually doing it the way it is supposed to be done. I am speaking for myself, so don't anyone get offended. I did it backwards, got birds, made makeshift pen, lost 3 out of 4 to predators. Had to go get more, and still had to build a secure facility to keep them.You are actually doing it right, making a lot of us jealous!!

So far only 1 chick loss to a stupid accident, and 1 gosling loss due to not reading feed bag label. No predator losses yet. :fl
 
Fortunately for me I did a lot of research before I even made my first post! I had two surgeries on my left shoulder last year and to this day I cannot lift more than five pounds above my shoulder. This 10X25X8 coop has taken me awhile. Everything up high I have to get above with a ladder and then lift in place using blocks and dead men to support! It's been good physical therapy building my strength back!! Almost finished though, building eaves and then metal roofing goes on. Good thing I included chicken math as far as coop capacity!! :)
