Texas

Well we officially have 5 peepers. There are still 2 more eggs. Not sure how long to wait on them..Since I don't know how far apart the eggs were laid, She buries them in the hay.
I love her nest box! I have 2 medium dog crates. They are what I transported the 5 ducks home in. I may have to borrow that idea for a broody hen! Lol

It worked great. DH thought of the idea and then someone else here had said they'd used them and had worked for them.. It didn't take her long to settle in it. No more hens laying eggs in her nest. That's why I don't want to give up on the eggs.
Checked them today and they still look good inside. We moved her and chicks to a bigger cage with the last 2 eggs. She settled on them so will give them a few more days. There is 2 and a half days between the oldest and youngest chicks.

Hi. New here. I just started raising quail a few weeks ago. I'm so excited! I hope to have a few chickens soon too!

Man,it is a very good thing I decided to try to put the flock up early by myself. (kids were getting physical and hubby was with them). The jerks with all the stray dogs just walked by with a little kid and 8 dogs OFF leash. Those dogs went into other peoples yards and they didn't do squat! If my flock had been out the dogs would have tried to get them, and if they had managed to get over my 4 foot fence I would have feel furious. Time for me to go back to the gun range. Looks like our 2 weeks of peace from them are over.
So sorry :(.

Tractor Supply have already stopped selling & the lady at my local store said they will not be selling them again. My daughter & I were excited to see some chicks when we went to pick up the DE, oyster shells & meal worm...but they were already gone. So I know finding chicks will be tricky. I may want to get slightly older pullets first, closer to our pullets' age, so there won't be so much prep-work before introducing them to our lovely ladies...for that, I have found many listings on Craigslist, although I am a little skeptical of Craigslist animal listings. Or, I could hope to run into that lady from yesterday who said she had too many chicks and pullets on her hands & was willing to sell 'em. Our options are different now that the chick-selling season has ended, but I'm sure we'll figure it all out if we really want 'em.

If there is an Atwoods near you try them. I was at one today getting some grit and a small feeder for it and they still had chicks.
