Texas

Hello, I'm new to BYC and I live in Royse City, TX which is about 30 minutes East of Dallas. It's about as far out in the country I can live and still have a decent drive to work during the week. This is our first year having chickens. We started out with 12, 4 different breeds. They are almost 3 months old now. It's so cute the way the run to end of the chicken run when they see me coming.

Welcome to the Texas thread! All I can say is you better hang on tight! This thread usually moves pretty fast!

I might have to make a few for my chickens. They make a huge mess at their hanging feeder right now. For a flock Of 20 birds though, that will mean several buckets, lol.
I have 21 chickens. From what I've read, one hole will feed 5-8 chickens. I had the one bucket in the pen for a couple of days before I was able to pick up my lid for my other feeder. They did fine. It's not like they all eat at the same time normally. They do run to eat/drink when you first fill up the feeder/waterer, but that is just chickens. They act like they haven't had anything to eat/drink in a month of Sundays!

I don't know how an older roo will act with younger pullets, but I would make sure you have an extra pen to put him in just in case you need to separate him.

I really don't look for any eggs before 20 weeks. I figure my Comets will start laying first, then who knows who will be next. All of mine are hatchery chicks, so they will probably start laying sooner than heritage ones will. Mine are 9 &10 weeks old, so I still have a ways to go.

Good Morning, When you finally start getting your fresh chicken eggs, you will never get store bought again!!!
I agree! I had to go back to store bought eggs around Nov of last year. My egg man's chickens stopped laying for him and didn't start back up till around Christmas.

ok y'all I just started to ferment my feed. We will see how it goes. Since Brookshire11 is so graciously fostering my 4 babies, I thought that it would be easier to introduce them to FF then have to have separate containers of crumbles and pellets. Very new to all this so we will see. The pics of those chicks with the white patch on their heads is just ulta cute. Those are the Marans that will supposedly lay dark eggs, come about the end of summer, I figure. 4 weeks and counting til they come home!!!
Brookshire11 is the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!

There wasn't one to be had. But, did find out how to get a space in October. I will be working on setting up a run display and maybe even a coop for display.

Sorry you could not get your EE's!!! Was there much poultry there?

Crockett had their Trade Days on April 20/21 and I missed it completely.

At least you know what to do to get a booth!!
